The Canadian Brewhouse Director of Finance in Edmonton, Alberta

Join our team as our Director of Finance, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer! Lead finance operations with transparency and efficiency for the Canadian Brewhouse Group and stakeholders. Collaborate closely with leaders and staff to implement effective financial strategies.

Responsibilities: 

Financial Transactions and Cost Accounting

  • Work with the Controllers to develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Develop and maintain an effective cost accounting system.

  • Develop meaningful costing reports and recommend changes and corrective action.

  • Direct Project controls team in their activities related to profitability analysis, cost build-up and development of project control procedures and analysis. 

  • Maintain capital asset continuity schedules and inter-company cost allocations

    Financial Reporting

  • Develop, maintain and provide regular (monthly, quarterly, and annual) and ad-hoc financial reports to managers, Executive Group and others on a timely basis.

  • Provide financial metrics and variances and financial analysis as required.

  • Prepare quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements in accordance with ASPE.

  • Participate and provide key input into the development and preparation of Management Discussion and Analysis (“MD&A”) reports. 

  • Remain current with legislation and professional practice standards which have implications for the organization.

  • Liaise with a related organization and ensure alignment in financial reporting and practices where appropriate.

  • Prepare working papers and oversee the annual audit process ensuring that complete information is provided to the external auditors.

  • Ensure that the executive group, managers, board and its committees and other users receive reliable, relevant and timely financial information to facilitate effective decision-making.

  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer with financial reporting as required to the Executive Group, board meetings, lenders, and other forums.

    Financial Systems and Processes

  • Develop appropriate financial policies and procedures.

  • Maintain effective internal controls over financial systems and processes.

  • Implement recommendations from internal and external auditors.

  • compliance with current legislation and best practices.

  • Oversee the financial system and, in coordination with the IT department, organize upgrades and general improvement of management information systems.

  • Ensure that computer systems functionality is understood by the users and system capability is maximized to improve effectiveness in finance operations.

  • Keeping current on new developments in financial systems and best practices.

    Financial Management

  • Participate in the development of the strategic business planning and budgeting processes for the organization.

  • Develop short-term and long-term corporate financial forecasts.

  • Ensure that detailed operating budgets for all divisions within the company are properly and accurately prepared, completed, consolidated, and submitted to the senior management team.

  • Analyze budget requests to identify areas in which reductions can be made and allocate operating budget.

  • Direct the preparation of reports which outline company's financial position in areas of income, expenses and earnings, based on past, present and future operations.

  • Monitor cash flow and overall treasury requirements.

  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.

    Human Resource Management

  • Provide direction, guidance and training to accounting staff.

  • Provide feedback and coaching on performance along with completion of performance evaluation of staff.

  • Provide guidance and/or participate in conflict resolution between finance personnel.

  • Assign tasks to ensure work performed in an efficient and productive manner.

  • Responsible for the management of special projects as assigned.

    Qualifications: 

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent. 

  • Completion of a recognized accounting designation CPA. 

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in a financial management role, combined with experience managing and building high performance teams. 

  • 5+ years of leadership and strategic business planning.

  • Proficiency in software applications and ERP solutions.

  • Well-developed communication skills, including oral, written, presentation and inter-personal. 

  • Ability to perform in a high energy, fast paced environment.
