Position Description:
Performs specialized work in the planning, conducting and/or supervising of original research at TTUHSC EP. Responsible for participating in, planning, scheduling and/or supervising research projects and the interpretation of the results for publication. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions:
Performs scientific research, including:
Molecular Biology and Cell Culture: Perform a range of molecular biology techniques, including PCR, qPCR, DNA purification, mutagenesis, and cloning. Conduct protein analysis through ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western blot, and immunofluorescence assay. Perform protein purification and characterization, as well as basic bioinformatics analysis. Culture bacterial cells, primary mammalian cells, and cell lines.
Virology: Produce and manage herpesvirus stocks and perform viral titration and neutralization assays at Biosafety Level 2.
Animal Work and Immunity Studies: Administer immunizations to animals, collect biological samples and assess immune responses.
Assist with data analysis, manuscript preparation, and presentation of data at lab meetings, as well as at regional and national meetings.
Assist with the training and supervision of graduate students, summer research interns, medical students, and lab research volunteers.
Ensure the day-to-day maintenance of the lab and lab equipment, including compliance with good laboratory practices, ordering supplies, and verifying receipt in the appropriate university systems.
Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies, procedures, and processes.
Personally demonstrate, display, and act in accordance with TTUHSCEP's values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Actively promote and encourage staff across the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a research laboratory, either through employment or academic study.
Proficiency in molecular biology assays.
Willingness to work with infectious agents under Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) precautions.
Experience conducting experiments with small animals in compliance with IACUC policies and procedures.
