Job Description

SCOPE OF WORK: The International Rescue Committee (IRC), works in the United States welcomes newly arrived refugees and immigrants, supports them in their resettlement, and provides holistic services to help them build new lives in their communities. IRC New Jersey is designated as a service provider by the New Jersey Office for Refugees and the federal government’s Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to provide Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) and Refugee Support Services (RSS) to non-refugee ORR-eligible individuals and families (i.e., Cuban and Haitian entrants, Ukrainian humanitarian parolees, asylees, etc.).

RESPONSIBILITIES: The RCA Intern will work closely with the RCA Coordinator and RCA Specialists to provide cash assistance to eligible immigrants, as part of IRC’s Intake and Casework team that provides a range of services to clients, including employment support and case management. The RCA intern will work closely with the RCA team to provide timely and accurate cash assistance services in accordance with client eligibility and program requirements.

The primary responsibilities are to support the RCA Coordinator and RCA Specialists with data entry and documentation for the RCA program, including:

· Processing and organizing client documents and information, including monthly redetermination data and paystubs

· Documenting client interactions in accordance with program requirements, including entering case notes, updating case files, and maintaining other spreadsheets and records to ensure program accuracy and compliance

· Preparing client documentation, such as termination and benefits letters

· Other duties as assigned

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: [Insert 3 Objectives for Interns Only]:

  1. Acquire a thorough understanding of the Refugee Cash Assistance program and the broader case management and employment services provided by the Intake and Casework team

  2. Become familiar with the specific needs and challenges facing IRC’s clients in New Jersey, and how IRC works with our clients to overcome barriers, including by offering employability services, English language training, career pathways, financial coaching and community referrals.

  3. Develop skills useful for a career in human services, including using case management software and understanding case worker documentation.

    REQUIREMENTS: Interns must be based in US, must be a US citizen or have US work authorization, must be enrolled in post-secondary institution or have graduated from a post-secondary institution within last 2 years.

    · Experience with data entry, case management/ case noting software, and maintaining accurate client records.

    · Previous experience and/ or a strong interest in working with refugees and immigrants. Alternatives accepted include internships, volunteer work, or related projects.

    · Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively work with diverse populations.

    · Excellent organizational and time management skills.

    · Bilingual proficiency Haitian Creole or Spanish is preferred.

    · Current enrollment at a college or university for Social Work, Psychology, Public Health or a related field, or 1-2 years of experience in any of these fields. Alternatives accepted include internships, volunteer work, or related projects.
