Job Summary and Qualifications

The Central Sterile Processing Technician II will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to coordinate and collaborate in the overall cleaning, disinfection, assembly, and sterile processing of instruments needed for daily surgical and invasive procedures. He/she is knowledgeable regarding instrumentation handling, care, cleaning, assembly, and sterilization. Is able to document all processes and ensure sterilization parameters are met in accordance with Hospital policy and AAMI standards. The Central Sterile Processing Technician II performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan for Swedish Medical Center. The Central Sterile Processing Technician II displays positive support for the values and mission of Swedish Medical Center. Call and weekends may be required for this position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Include:

  • Provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility in accordance with The Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, and AORN standards.

  • Properly handles, decontaminates, assembles, sterilizes, and returns for use all instrumentation in accordance with the above organizational standards.

  • Assists to develop and establish work flow, process improvements, daily work assignments, log documentation, and management.

  • Accurate and timely reporting of shift details to incoming shift staff, Lead Central Sterile Processing Technician, and SPD Manager.

  • Supports daily operations of any activities that pertain to the processing of reusable instrumentation.

  • Works with other departments in order to provide all necessary items to perioperative services.

  • Reports broken instrumentation and provides vital communication with team leadership and/or manager.

  • Demonstrates consistent success in working, communicating with, and mentoring diverse staff.

  • Communicates in a professional manner to all staff and facility employees.

  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of instrumentation in multiple specialty areas.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Central Sterile Technician or Surgical Technician certification required (CST or CSPT)

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of previous SPD experience preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge in the role of instrumentation as well as decontamination and sterilization of instruments.

  • Demonstrates good organizational skills and strong attention to detail.

  • Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers.

  • Strong multi-tasking skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
