Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Driver License Examiner Assistant (Summerdale) in Enola, Pennsylvania

The Department of Transportation is looking to hire a Driver License Examiner Assistant for the Summerdale location in Cumberland County. This role is essential as it supports the PennDOT Driver License Examiner in enhancing highway safety. The assistant will primarily engage with customers at the Driver License Center, where a key responsibility includes verifying identity documents to help prevent identity theft and fraud. Additionally, the office is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in Spanish, as there is an ongoing demand for bilingual applicants. The role of the Drivers License Examiner Assistant is situated within a Driver License Center that offers driver licensing and related services to the community. This position entails a professional approach to customer interactions, which includes verifying applicant identification, assisting with the completion of application forms, and inputting data into online driver license application systems. The assistant is responsible for distributing relevant forms and informational brochures tailored to the needs of the customers.

In addition, the assistant administers standardized knowledge assessments to gauge applicants' comprehension of motor vehicle regulations, driving laws, and traffic control devices. A vision screening is conducted for all applicants using a telebinocular instrument to assess visual acuity. The assistant is tasked with entering test results and customer application data into online software systems via a PC terminal.

The assistant independently addresses inquiries and concerns from the public, requiring a thorough understanding of the services offered and the specific requirements for each, including the criteria for obtaining REAL ID or non-REAL ID products. They provide guidance on various services related to driver's license or identification card renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, motorcycle licenses, and commercial driver's licenses, ensuring familiarity with the associated restrictions and endorsements.

Upon request, the assistant generates Restoration Requirements Letters for customers who visit in person. They are also responsible for ensuring the correct fee waiver code is applied and documented whenever a fee waiver is necessary for processing customer transactions, adhering to all Fee Waiver Guidelines. Compliance with the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Service Policy and REAL ID regulations is strictly maintained, and the assistant issues and scans the Non-Native Born US Citizen/Non-US Citizen Courtesy Form when additional information is required.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with 30-minute lunch. This position may require travel and overtime.
