Department Summary
At CHA, our food service department plays an important role in the satisfaction of our patients and colleagues. Our Food Service team members enhance the patient stay by delivering three quality meals per day to patients’ bedside. Our Expressly for You program assigns each patient a dedicated Food Service member to take care of their dining needs. Our Team members promote meal assistance to all patients daily (including meal selection, service, and retrieval). Team members serve food and beverages to patients by the patient’s diet prescription. Team members verbally communicate our patients’ concerns with the clinical dietitian.
Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Production Manager and First Cook, will assist with the preparation of patients and cafeteria meals. Duties include preparing dessert items, preparing sandwiches/salads, portioning out food products, and serving on the patient tray line if needed. Will learn more advanced food preparation skills on the job, i.e., preparing soups, sauces, and gravies, and preparing hot and cold entrees.
Qualifications
Equivalent to a high school graduate with additional specialized culinary training.
Must be able to read, write, and perform mathematical computations well enough to convert recipe weights and measures as needed.
Work Experience
Six months of previous kitchen work experience is required.
Must have a sincere interest in a career in culinary arts.
