Owl Ridge Natural Resource Wildlife Biologist in Fairbanks, Alaska

Qualifications and Experience:Qualified candidates will possess an M.S. or Ph.D. in Wildlife Biology, Marine Ecology, or other related environmental sciences, a minimum of 8 years direct experience in environmental permitting and/or wildlife monitoring and surveying, and a willingness to tackle tasks outside their core expertise.

Skills and Responsibilities:The primary job responsibilities include:

  • preparing documents relevant to National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental impact assessments
  • preparing Incidental Harassment Authorization (IHA) applications in compliance with the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA)
  • Section 7 consultation support, including preparation of Biological Assessments (BA), in compliance with the Endangered Species Act (ESA)
  • preparing and implementing wildlife and marine mammal monitoring plans

Understanding the regulatory framework of NEPA, MMPA, and ESA is essential.

Secondary responsibilities include conducting field work such as marine mammal monitoring, wildlife surveys, and fish surveys, often at remote locations.

Required skills include data analysis and interpretation, proficiency in mathematics, conducting research, staff management, effective written and verbal communication, problem solving, attention to detail, and proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel).

Excellent writing skills are a requisite for this position, and preferred candidates will have a working knowledge of Alaskan wildlife, especially marine mammals. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, meet deadlines, manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously, commit to quality and safety, and have a willingness to learn from others. The successful candidate must also be able to conduct basic data analysis and thoroughly seek and review relevant technical studies and publications.

The successful candidate must embrace and execute the company model as a key part of their position responsibilities.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Designation:This position meets the requirements of a professionally exempt position. The position will be paid on a monthly salary and overtime is not applicable.

Travel Requirements:The position may require travel to remote Alaska sites, or other Owl Ridge office locations.
