Element Materials Technology Microbiologist in Fairfield, Ohio
Overview
Element has an opportunity for a Microbiologist that will, among other responsibilities, focus on cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of reusable medical devices in a GLP lab setting . This position in Cincinnati, OH will execute operationally on customer projects, and will support performing testing, method development, technical assessments and overall process improvement.
Responsibilities
Lead a team of technicians to ensure timely project completion in accordance with customer requirements
Performs, evaluates and interprets a wide range of microbiological assays including basic analytical titrations in accordance with SOP and protocols
Performs, evaluates and interprets a wide range of cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization assays
Assists with the development of and performs, evaluates and interprets Research and Development (R&D) projects
Assists in implementing new methodologies
Aids in report (data) generation
Performs microorganism propagation, stock culture maintenance, daily culture transfers and organism preparations using aseptic technique
Responsible for generating and maintaining strict documentation of raw data to ensure a high level of scientific integrity in accordance with regulatory requirements
Cross functionally supports the biological testing production laboratory with cytotoxicity, bioburden, and endotoxin testing
Responsible for the documentation and maintenance of applicable training records
Assists with the monitoring, cleaning and decontaminating of laboratory equipment on a routine basis
Assists with the review of paperwork generated by the Medical Device Laboratory as necessary
Assists with developing and refining new and existing Standard Operating Procedures and forms
Provides information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person
Responsible for communicating laboratory issues and trends to the lab manager and to peers when these issues are discovered
Responsible for assisting with the completion of all daily laboratory tasks scheduled directly or indirectly to the employee
Assist the laboratory manager in developing or training new or existing laboratory employees
Skills / Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biological science or related field required
Three to five years of applicable experience in a microbiology or related lab is required
Prior experience with reusable medical devices preferred in the areas of cleanliness, disinfection, sterilization, etc....
Study Director experience preferred
Able to become current and stay current with EPA and FDA Good Laboratory Practice Regulations (40 CFR Part 160 and 21 CFR Part 58)
Thorough understanding of scientific studies in order to problem-solve, develop new test methods
Able to understand published methodology to adapt existing test methods, develop new test methods and ensure accuracy
Thorough understanding of governing regulations and pertinent scientific literature to ensure compliance
Knowledge of the principles of classical microbiology, including bacteriology, mycology, and microscopy
Knowledge of general analytical procedures including chemical titrations
Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment apparatus and terminology
