Meta Electrical Data Center R&D Engineer in Fremont, California

Required Skills:

Electrical Data Center R&D Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Develop novel concepts for data center electrical infrastructure solutions covering high voltage, medium voltage, low voltage power system technologies to reduce cost, improve reliability, efficiency, and speed to market

  2. Lead all phases of design and development life cycle of electrical systems comprising concept design, prototyping and deployments

  3. Drive cross-functional and interdisciplinary collaboration with other teams including hardware engineering, supply chain, construction, commissioning, and data center operations

  4. Develop aligned partnership and effective collaborations with data center technology vendors, and consultants to remain current on data center electrical systems industry trends while influencing relevant technology development

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor of science in electrical engineering

  2. Minimum 7 years of hands-on design and development experience in mission critical electrical power components and systems including concept formulation, detailed design, modeling/simulation, prototyping, verification/validation testing and deployment for sustained operations

  3. Cross-disciplinary knowledge of data center electrical systems design and operation: High Voltage - Medium Voltage - Low Voltage power distribution, backup power, energy storage, and on-site generation

  4. Experience in designing and implementing electrical protection & control systems

  5. Experience in electrical power simulation software - e.g. ETAP, EMTP, PSSE, PSCAD, etc

  6. Experience with electric power industry standards, building codes and safety standards including NEC, NETA, ANSI, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, UL, UFC and UBC

  7. Experience in troubleshooting electrical systems and analytical skills

  8. Effective presentation skills and demonstrated experience in translating technical terminology in order to drive understanding and buy-in from a varied range of stakeholders

  1. Advanced degree in electrical engineering: MSc, PhD

  2. Professional engineer registration

  3. Experience in electrical power systems reliability modeling, statistical analyses, and data science techniques

  4. Experience in server power supplies and power electronics related to AC/DC conversion and DC distribution at various voltage levels

  5. Working knowledge of cost estimating methodologies to establish business cases for electrical design products - e.g. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), ROI, etc

  6. Experience in applying systems engineering methods to electrical design and development projects

Public Compensation:

$204,000/year to $281,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
