About the opportunity:

The Defence Industry Solutions Sector is a growing sector and to meet this we are looking to recruit for a Safety Case Engineer with extensive experience in the development of safety justification for nuclear infrastructure to join our Defence & Security business. Candidates with similar safety case experience within high hazard industries and, or significant nuclear defence industry experience will be considered, where this compliments the existing team.

This role will ideally be based close to our Glasgow office in a hybrid working role, and there will be a need for periodic visits to client sites as projects require.

The Defence & Security business provides an exciting mixture of consultancy, design and engineering support, along with delivery of challenging Defence projects, to major clients in the UK at a variety of Sites across the nuclear and defence industries, including HMNB Clyde, HMNB Devonport, BAES Barrow and AWE Aldermaston. Overseas, we are delivering similarly interesting and exciting projects across the globe including projects for clients in the Middle East and Australia.

Taking a lead role in the development of the appropriate and proportionate safety justification documentation case which will predominantly be including Nuclear but may also include, Product, Construction, Process and HSE

  • Ensuring technical quality and excellence of your work

  • Regular communication with clients and other design team members and participation in Design Reviews, HAZOPs, HAZCONs, SHERAs and stakeholder meetings

  • Contributing to the development of safety requirements within the designs for complex facilities, systems and equipment

  • Adherence and contribution to business and quality management systems

  • Operational and design safety, and developing a good safety culture

  • Self-starter, ability to guide and lead others within the team

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • HND or Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline or a Professionally Registered Engineer.

  • Experience in nuclear or nuclear defence engineering or a similar highly regulated environment.

  • Experience of, Safety Case production, Hazard Listing, Fault Schedules, Safety Class Analysis, Safety Functional Requirements, Operational Constraints

  • You must be a UK National and able/willing to obtain SC level security clearance, which includes resident in the UK for the preceding 5 years
