Overview

Job Summary

The QC FLOATER position is responsible for ensuring the food safety and quality of products and operations at the Natural Grocers Distribution Center. The QC FLOATER will perform food safety inspections in production and assist production and sanitation with housekeeping efforts. This position supports the development and implementation of food safety programs at the distribution center.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

Production and Sanitation

  • Conduct production product changeover inspections in room 3.

  • Inspect raw material during production in room 1,2 and 3.

  • Assist with housekeeping efforts in production, continuous production support in cleaning spills and breaking cardboard boxes.

  • Monitor metal detection program in production.

  • On call for all metal detected in production to determine origin, report to supervisor.

  • Report any incidents of non-compliance to managers. Place non-conforming product on HOLD.

  • Perform allergen and ATP swabs during scheduled sanitation cleans in all processing rooms.

  • Inspect equipment during and after allergen, complete, and organic cleans.

  • Assist production with correcting quality non-conformances-relabeling, checking seals, examining finished goods.

  • Test sanitizer strength daily.

  • Perform routine walk-through inspections for general housekeeping and GMP’s.

  • Assist with training of new employees on GMP’s and proper food handling.

  • Assist sanitation techs with “end of week” sanitation duties including disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling baggers.

  • Assist sanitation with washing containers, tubs, utensils and other production equipment.

  • Operates a baler for recycling cardboard and plastic.

  • Conduct routine checks of production and sanitation records.

  • Must be able to perform all duties required of QC Tech

  • Must be able to perform all duties required of Sanitation Tech

    Food Safety and Documentation

  • Assist in maintaining food safety practices in production and warehousing.

  • Assist in implementing SOP’s, SSOP’s and Quality forms.

  • Assist in preparation for audits, including FDA and Organic inspections.

  • Monitor and document cooler temperatures daily.

  • Monitor sanitizer concentration daily.

  • Assist with pest control program-monitor pest traps and pest control representative, routinely treat drains, inspect traps, and report incidents to supervisor.

  • Conduct monthly quality audits of the facility with QA Manager and Supervisor

  • Place product on HOLD, when necessary, with QA Supervisor or QA Manager assistance.

  • Any other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED and minimum 1 year of experience in food production quality assurance required.

  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices in food production preferred

  • Ability to read, write and speak English clearly and concisely is required

  • Has good attention to detail; accuracy and thoroughness is a must

  • Knowledge of food safety and HACCP programs recommended

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required

  • Strong computer skills including MS Office

  • Highly organized with ability to multi-task

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals

  • Ability to give direction and assist with employee training, when required

  • Must possess excellent attention to detail

  • Able to meet all deadlines

    Physical Requirements:

    Must have the ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 50 lbs.

    Must have the ability to occasionally push or pull up to 30 lbs.

    Must be able to constantly use the computer for data entry and use of mouse.

    Must be able to constantly sit, use fine motor manipulations, and reach outward for the duration of the work shift.

    Must be able to frequently grip, bend, twist, and turn.

    Must be able to occasionally walk, stand, squat, kneel, and reach above chest as needed.

    Environmental Requirements:

    Must be able to work occasionally with cold, heat, sharp tools and equipment, noise, contact stress, dust, fumes, and congested worksite.
