Mesa County Administrative Assistant - DA in Grand Junction, Colorado

Job Title: Administrative Specialist - DA Salary: $20.02 Hourly Job Type: Full Time Location: Grand Junction, CO

Acts as an advocate for victims by performing a variety of investigative and specialized clerical functions to assist with the determination of eligibility and processing of victim compensation applications and claims.

Open, review, and screen victim compensation applications for completeness; contact victims to obtain additional information when needed; types and composes correspondence and forms.

Obtains police reports, to supplement victim compensation applications.

Review a variety of victim compensation claims, pursuant to Board policy and state statue, and using some independence of judgement, maintains a caseload; reviews and analyzes bills submitted on Crime Victim Compensation claims, determines amounts to be paid using specific guidelines set by Board policy and state statute; generates and posts payment requests as appropriate.

Assist eligible victims in applying for and accessing financial benefits, including but not limited to, medical assistance, funeral assistance, counseling, lost wages, loss of support, and replacement of residential doors, locks and windows.

Contacts service providers to verify bills are for services related to the crime; verifies balances, and client responsibility. Calculates the amounts still owed by the victim and eligible for payment by the Crime Victim Compensation program.

Inputs data and payment information into a specialized Crime Victim Compensation database. Scans and assigns documentation into the Crime Victim Compensation database.

Maintains files and claims involving on-going compensation' maintains records and fund disbursement on individual claims and closes files upon case completion.

Assists Crime Victim Compensation Administrator in preparations for the monthly Crime Victim Compensation Board meetings, creates electronic information packets for Board members and provides assistance during the meeting.

Performs clerical functions necessary to expedite the Crime Victim Compensation process; routine telephone and/or personal contact with crime victims and service providers to provide accurate and up-to-date information, to answer questions about Crime Victim Compensation, or to refer to other agencies and/or resources as appropriate.

Documents and distributes information for payment recovery through restitution.

Assists victims on the phone or in person who need help completing the Crime Victim Compensation application. Explains program guidelines and makes referrals to agencies able to provide alternative assistance.

Assists with taking and preparing minutes of Crime Victim Compensation Board meetings.

Assists other Victim/Witness Assistants, providing backup support as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Two year college or technical school degree in computer science, business, or a related field with two (2) years of progressively responsible related work experience.

Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
