About the program:

  • Earn and Learn Model! The model provides a combination of paid education and work experience! While in the program, participates split their paid time with 24 hours of education and 12 hours working as a Patient Experience Aide. This is a full-time, 36 hours per week, benefit eligible opportunity.   • First day of work: March 31, 2025

  • Program Dates: April 2 - May 15, 2025 - Class, labs and clinicals will be held at Northern Light Mayo Hospital in Dover Foxcroft.

  • Schedule: A tentative class schedule can be provided upon request and/or during interview. Work time will be built around education/class time. During training students will need to be available to attend all required lecture, lab and clinicals.

  • Work Commitment: State Exam on 05/15/2025. Once active on the Maine CNA registry, employee will transition into a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) role with a two-year work commitment to Northern Light CA Dean Hospital. Units and shifts may vary following the program.

Requirements :

  • High school diploma or HiSet/GED required

  • Willing to take a CASAS (math and reading assessment) and receive an acceptable score for the program at Piscataquis Valley Adult Education Cooperative

  • Willing to work as a Patient Experience Aide

  • Willing to sign a two-year work commitment as a full-time CNA following training at Northern Light CA Dean. A promissory note applies.

  • Internal and In-System employees must be in good standing and in their current position for a minimum of six months, unless approved by local HR

Patient Experience Aide Role:

Adheres to mission, vision, and values of the organization while actively promoting Northern Light Health and its member organizations as a good place to work or receive health care. Follows all policies and procedures. Adheres to all safety procedures and applicable regulations. Works as part of the health care team to follow infection prevention guidelines and policies. Seeks opportunities to exceed patient and family expectations.

Responsibilities:

Assists with monitoring patients who require 1:1 observation. Assists with feeding patients as needed (cutting food, opening packaging, etc.). Assists with mobilizing patients at the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Utilizes patient lifting equipment as part of a 2-person team. Assists with driving patients' home from the hospital in the Courier/Patient vehicle.
