As a Chemist II, you will be responsible for the development, evaluation, testing and quality of new products requested by the regional and/or global automotive refinish (ECR) marketing team. You will provide technical support to production on automotive refinish (ECR) products manufactured in N. America, and other global manufacturing sites including assisting the team with work on Product Maintenance issues (internal and external). In this position you will have direct impact on the quality and perception of BASF technology, its performance and technical service expertise at customers.

You create chemistry by...

  • Developing products for ECR that meet global or other region requirements. Designing experimental plan with supervisor approval and Independently executing experimental plan and run experiments on lab samples to validate performance of coating formulations to meet established product profiles.

  • Interacting regularly with the production staff at the various locations in N. America manufacturing ECR products as well as EMEA sites to solve manufacturing problems.

  • Performing a variety of scientific tasks without direct supervision. Priorities are set with consultation of supervisor.

  • Participating in global meetings with peers from technical, marketing and supply chain to present work done in N. America, including the preparation and presentation of technical reports outlining activities, and learnings.

  • Participating actively in vendor meetings as necessary, remaining current with the relevant state-of-the-art coatings, testing, process and equipment technologies and managing intellectual property as it relates to NLR strategic concerns

If you...

  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical science discipline, Chemistry preferred

  • Three+ years relevant experience in product development of automotive coatings, preferably automotive refinish related coatings. Experience with scale-up in production.is an asset.

  • Good laboratory skills and the ability to carry out laboratory work in a controlled environment, including proper use of a laboratory notebook to record data and observations accurately.

  • Good project management skills to execute a project in a time/cost efficient manner.

  • Being skilled with common paint manufacturing and testing equipment
