Ohio State Job Bank Inspector III/Compliance Officer - Weights and Measures in Greenville, Ohio
Job Description:
- Assists state inspectors by testing and certifying large capacity scales, bulk fuel trucks and bulk rack meters
- Implements communication with commercial business owners on how their devices are to be used and maintained under NIST Handbook 44 standards of weights and measures, 130 retail and motor fuel dispensers and meters, 133 package checking and method of sale by Darke County Weights & Measures Policy Procedures. Inspects new and non-commercial equipment used for retail sales. Educates all commercial business owners and staff on proper Weights & Measures compliance and corrective action issues.
- Follow OSHA Confined Space compliance regulations and Mine Safety Hazard Administration requirements. Due to safety issues this is a high-risk job from lifting heavy weights, working with hazardous chemicals, to hazardous work conditions and being in constant vigilance to work surroundings. On call to insure correct and accurate weights and measures for commercial businesses.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- College degree or high school graduate, plus experience dealing with the public and performing mathematical functions
- Required to complete National Conference of Weights & Measures and National Institute of Standards and Technology courses 1 thru 24 and The Ohio Department of Agriculture Division of Weights & Measures.
- Must annually complete continuing education to maintain certification.
- Must have a valid driver's license and must pass a background check (required for entry to any federal location to test scales)
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of business mathematics, physical science and mechanics related to construction and operation of weights and measures devices
- Ability to understand and interpret State of Ohio weights and measures legislation and Federal regulations.
- Calculate analytical problems
- Apply laws and regulations to practical problems
- Maintain records and prepare written reports
- Perform related office duties
- Work alone without close supervision
- Ability to work in sometimes unpleasant circumstances
Travel Required:
Frequent travel to businesses within Darke County testing compliance, helping surrounding County Inspectors and to mandatory trainings throughout the state
