Job Description: The RF/microwave Amplifier Design Engineer is an experienced professional with the capability to design discrete transistor and MMIC based low noise and medium power amplifiers implemented in both hybrid and surface mount technologies. Able to synthesize and develop new amplifier components using CAE analysis tools and has hands-on bench troubleshooting and test skills. The individual effectively communicates with contacts inside and outside of own department, customers, and suppliers. Recommends enhancements to systems and processes. Possesses practical project management skills and will work under general supervision to achieve technical performance while meeting schedule and cost operational targets for specific programs and projects with moderate impact on departmental results.
Essential Functions:
Design, develop, test and support production of discrete and MMIC based low noise and medium power amplifiers implemented in both hybrid and surface mount technologies.
Conceptualize and develop new RF and microwave circuits, packages, and products.
Perform linear and nonlinear circuit simulations of microwave active and passive circuits.
Provide direction on hi-reliability specifications, i.e., the screening and testing for our products to be compliant.
Develop specifications for microwave components and subassemblies.
Generate design review presentations and test reports.
Design for ease of manufacturing.
Estimate and track project schedules and labor for engineering developments.
Assist in the writing of technical proposals.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 4 years prior relevant experience or a Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years prior related experience.
A minimum of 2 years designing and simulating low noise amplifiers.
Experience designing RF/Microwave passive components, e.g., couplers, power dividers and attenuators.
Ability to manage projects and interface to other areas.
Experience designing products for manufacturing.
Proficient in linear CAE and experience with non-linear CAE.
Ability to work under a microscope in a clean room environment to test and tune circuits.
Experienced user of microwave test equipment; including network analyzers, noise figure analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power meters and signal generators.
Familiarity with device semiconductors, such as GaAs and GaN.
Ability to gain Secret Level Security Clearance.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Familiarity with MIL specifications, such as MIL-PRF-38534 and MIL-STD-202.
Hands-on experience testing and aligning fine pitch circuits under a microscope.
Design experience with oscillators, synthesizers, and PIN diode circuits.
Knowledge/application of filter synthesis and design.
System analysis experience comprising both cascade and spur analysis.
Proficient use of Keysight ADS, Keysight RFPro, and/or Ansys HFSS simulation tools.
Perform EM simulations of microwave housings, boards, transitions, and passive circuits.
Use of CAD tools such as AutoDesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
Design/test experience of circuits operating through 26GHz is favored, with operation up through 40GHz further preferred.
Experience with both chip and wire hybrid and PCB surface mount manufacturing methods.
Experience using wire bonders.
