About the role

Reporting to the Associate Director Medical Affairs, the Sr. Manager, Medical Affairs provides strategic and medical/scientific/clinical leadership for the Surgery Business Unit in the EMEA region. Responsible and accountable for defining and implementing development medical and clinical programs, as well as KOL development and building KOL networks in the region.

The Sr. Manager, Medical Affairs needs to have strong strategic and operational experience with clinical trial strategy, design, and execution, demonstrated productivity in peer-reviewed publications and public speaking/presentation, as well as external KOL engagement. It is also very important for this leader to be a proactive contributor to the business by working closely with regional and global Regulatory Affairs, R&D, Strategic Marketing, and Business Development to foster innovation within the Business Unit.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Develop strategic partnerships with scientific, clinical experts and business partners (associations, government, etc.) based on cutting-edge clinical/scientific data and information

  • Provide timely feedback/information on emerging clinical/scientific trends and opportunities to internal stakeholders

  • Provide input into the development of and ensure the appropriate execution of relevant regional medical meetings (e.g. advisory boards, symposia, and investigator meetings).

  • Provide input into the development of local tactical plans & ensure execution of the plans at local levels.

  • Provide innovative insights and make recommendations from local level

  • Work Collaboratively across business teams, Managed Markets, Medical functions, and marketing while maintaining appropriate communication flow while sharing best practices.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess education/research needs

  • Assist in the identification of investigators and sites for company-sponsored clinical trials

  • Design and handle BD sponsored post market studies, investigator sponsored studies and research collaborations.

  • Actively participate in and contribute to relevant management and leadership meetings and activities

  • Demonstrated ability to develop trust and integrity with peers, and others within Medical Affairs and commercial organizations.

  • Utilization of Effective Communication to adjust for multiple communicating styles

  • Ensure the attainment of individual objectives and results that satisfies goals, team and business objectives

  • Insights: Provide customer insights and competitive intelligence that leads to informed business decisions and/or refinement of strategy and/or tactics

Qualifications

  • University Degree in biotechnology, Lifesciences and medical sciences, biomedical engineering, or a related field

  • At least 5 years of clinical experience in or medical device industry, with some surgery-specific experience

  • Global exposure and understanding of the medical device space.

  • Willing to travel frequently, 60% at times, primarily within the EMEA region

  • Proficient verbal and written English

  • Understand legally and technically written standards, regulations, procedures, test methods so as to communicate their intent.

  • Management/business experience required to include talent management and budget accountability

  • Influencing Skills - Able to establish rapport, value, and respect internally within a complex and highly technical environment and with KOLs and other influential partners externally. Able to influence directly and indirectly. Able to initiate and effectively lead change efforts
