JOB SUMMARY

The position involves creating documents, maintaining property ownership records and updating parcel maps and digital maps for taxation using various computer programs, tools and resources. Assists the public in interpreting legal descriptions and property maps.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Deciphers legal descriptions and constructs property boundaries based on recorded documents, including deeds, subdivision plats and surveys.

Maps complicated and detailed legal descriptions for taxing districts and entities, i.e. School, Fire, Ambulance, Road, Sewer and Cities.

Maps newly annexed properties into cities, logs information in the annexation book, updates property record cards, and databases, corrects mylar maps, digital maps, and city maps.

Sends annexation changes to appraisal, personal property, and County Clerk.

Maps legal descriptions for highways, communicating with Jefferson County Public works and MoDOT (Missouri Department of Transportation) to order highway plans.

Logs recorded subdivision plats and assigns subdivision numbers, enters data in subdivision database in Access.

Makes changes to the Mylar maps, to reflect recorded deeds or subdivision plats, using Leroy templates and rapidograph pen and ink system.

Calculates acreage, digitizes, and enters metes and bounds coordinates of newly recorded subdivisions.

Researches recorded documents, court records and other sources to aid in identifying property ownership and boundaries.

Ensures accuracy of legal information (legal descriptions and subdivision plats) including the calculation and allocation of acreage amounts on real property using COGO (Coordinate Geometry) programs.

Works with public, legal, and business entities to help answer questions regarding property, legal descriptions or subdivision plats.

Uses a variety of different software applications that pertain to mapping and the general function of the mapping department.

Attains necessary knowledge of procedures in Personal Property and Real Estate to assist the Front Office in answering phone calls during times of high volume.

Performs work at assigned location during specified business hours.

Performs related additional duties as required and assigned.
