The Intel Data Center and AI (DCAI) group creates Intel’s leading data center CPU, GPU, and AI accelerator products. The Mesa 3D organization (within DCAI) is a major contributor to the Mesa software stack enabling high-performance graphics on open-source operating systems for the Intel line of integrated and discrete GPU products. We are a team with a strong technical atmosphere, innovation, friendly team-work spirit, and engineers with diverse technical backgrounds.

We are looking for a GPU software development engineer with a passion for 3D graphics and a track record in system level open-source development. This position would be working on the Intel's Open-Source 3D Graphics Drivers based on the upstream Mesa project (mesa3d.org).

As a GPU Software Development Engineer your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, enhancing, maintaining, writing unit tests, and debugging the user space graphics driver code. The code is mostly C and developed using longstanding Mesa open-source project processes.

  • Develops and/or validates software that enables Intel GPUs.

  • The scope can span the entire stack, from firmware and device drivers through APIs and the application layer, and may also include the tools, infrastructure, and technologies necessary to develop, profile, optimize, and productize Intel GPUs or graphics/GPGPU software solutions.

  • Interact with internal customers and the external Mesa community.

Qualifications

You must possess the minimum requirements noted below and minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Additional preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field and 6+ years of related experience or

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field and 4+ years of related experience or

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field and 2+ years of related experience.

  • 6+ years of experience with C or C++ project development.

  • 5 + years of experience with open-source software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Linux gaming stack (including Wine, Proton, etc).

  • Experience architecting system software for Linux OS.

  • Technical expertise on Linux Operating system architecture and device driver model.

  • Technical expertise and contributions on Linux DRM subsystem and graphics/compute SW stack.

  • Prior contributions on 3D driver development, Vulkan/OpenGL APIs, and contributing to open-source Mesa 3D project.

  • Experience with f AI/Machine Learning tools and workflow.

  • Experience architecting overall end-to-end Linux solutions.

Working Model

This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site. In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.
