Job Description

Job Summary:

This Houston based position will utilize extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals with advanced coordination and control and using written and/or verbal instructions including engineering drawings and test procedures, positions, builds, tests, repairs and modifies production mechanical and electronic components and instruments. This position will also maintain production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment.

Detailed Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by scheduling and completing preventative maintenance.

  • May be required to install, troubleshoot, diagnose causes and/or repair products, instruments or equipment or perform routine preventative maintenance.

  • Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Able to detect imperfections by examining form and texture of parts.

  • Activate controls to apply electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical power.

  • Inspect used parts to detect changes in dimensional requirements and ability to determine changes in dimensional requirements.

  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, level, and straight edges.

  • Repair or replace defective parts as required.

  • Review project instructions and drawings to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or assemblies.

  • Set up and conduct tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to components for functional, operational, environmental, and life conditions to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production model or to obtain data for development, standardization, quality control, and/or contract requirements.

  • Install special functional and structural parts in devices by utilizing machine shop personnel for instrumentation and equipment.

  • Initiates purchase orders for parts, equipment, and machines.

  • Record test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test method.

  • Identify events and recording differences for equipment maintenance scheduling.

  • Accurately maintain and store maintenance information in written and electronic form.

  • Conserve maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed.

  • Coordinate maintenance events with Production Managers for assistance. Utilize resources when necessary to perform strenuous activity.

  • Assist facilities with coordination of on-site vendors and contractors, but not limited to following up with work completion.

  • Participate in activity surround Disaster Recovery Plan and Disaster Recovery.

  • Coordinate and participate in writing work instructions, risk assessments, and hazard assessments.

  • Work closely with EHS/Facilities and participate in Facilities/EHS inspections.

  • Actively contribute to cost savings efforts regarding facilities and maintenance.

  • Available outside of usual work hours when needed.

Other Essential Duties

  • Perform hands-on assembly/disassembly, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of seismic towed arrays and related products.

  • Perform soldering of wires and components.

  • Design and builds production/test equipment and fixtures.

  • Use and maintain manufacturing and test equipment, including pressure test equipment and tensioning equipment.

  • Troubleshoot and resolves equipment problems.

  • Read and interpret drawings, technical documentation, and manufacturing and test/inspection documentation.

  • May evaluate manufacturing processes, suggest manufacturing process improvements, and assist in defining/implementing new processes.

  • Create and edit user manuals, checklists, troubleshooting guides, etc.

  • Investigate, propose, and implement approved corrective actions for problems/failures.

  • Conduct user training activities.

  • Provide technical product support to internal personnel.

  • Follow all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.

  • Perform all other duties requested, directed, or assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Vocational or Technical Certificate, or college degree (Associates Degree) in related or specialized field; 5+ years of experience, and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge computer software including basic use of spreadsheet (MS Excel), word (MS Word), and email (MS Outlook) software. Employee will be tasked with using ERP software such as IFS.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret engineering documentation, technical specifications, and drawings, manuals and instructions.

  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to support design, development, troubleshooting, repair, and creation of products and systems.

  • Ability to prepare, review and evaluate technical documentation, specifications, test plans and procedures.

  • Excellent mechanical and electrical aptitude with good skills in diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical problems.

  • Good English communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of the organizations and with customers.

  • Proficient with MS Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to work efficiently with ERP system.

  • Good working knowledge of hydraulics, air systems, pressure vessels and other equipment.

  • Ability to perform measurements using devices such as tape measure, ruler, multi-meter, IR meter, oscilloscope, and RCL meter.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet requirements.

  • Ability to reach and feel.

  • Ability to stand and walk frequently while performing work.

  • Ability to research, comprehend and retain job related information and instructions.

  • Ability to concentrate and focus for extended periods of time on technical work.

  • Ability to handle multiple and competing priorities/tasks.

  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to distinguish colors, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Ability to work with cable oils, gels, and other filler materials.

  • Ability to work with potting materials, epoxies, and other bonding agents.

  • Must be able to organize work areas.

  • Self-starter with ability to work effectively with limited supervision.

  • Ability to work overtime.

  • Basic Knowledge of ISO 9001.

Other Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record to allow for the use of company vehicle as needed.

  • Forklift experience preferred.

  • U.S. Person for access to ITAR-Controlled Technical Data.
