About the SC Johnson Graduate School of Management

The Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell delivers educational programming across seven different MBA programs with the intent of developing highly successful and ethical business leaders of the future. Relying on the pillars of performance learning, a collaborative community and Cornell's vast connections, the Johnson faculty produce students equipped to excel in the current cross-functional, collaborative, digital economy. Johnson's Career Management Center prepares MBA students from both the residential and executive programs for a competitive job market with advising, workshops, networking, and access to appropriate tools/resources.


The Opportunity

The SC Johnson School Career Management Center (CMC) is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Administrative Assistant to provide overall administration and operational support. As a secondary contact for students, employers, alumni, and other CMC office users, this role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth functioning of the center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Support: Assist with the administration and daily operations of the CMC.
  • Customer Service: Serve as a secondary contact for all students, employers, alumni, and other stakeholders using the CMC office.
  • Recruiting and Advising Support: Provide support for CMC recruiting and student advising activities.
  • Programming and Events Coordination: Help coordinate various CMC programs and events.
  • Financial Transactions: Process and track all financial transactions, including travel, procurement of goods and services, and justification of daily expenditures.
  • Budget Management: Assist in budget forecasting and reforecasting during the fiscal year, review financial statements, expedite adjustments, and manage contract renewal processes.
  • Vendor and Contractor Relations: Support relationships with essential partners, including vendors and independent contractors.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that includes 1-2 days/week remote after a period or orientation and training. This hybrid work arrangement is subject to change at any time. Typical work hours are 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday. Some overtime required.


What You Need

We are looking for a team member who is customer-service oriented, excited to learn, and detail oriented. Additionally, you will:

  • Hold an Associates Degree with two to four years of relevant experience.
  • Have experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Incorporate the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color.
  • Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Follow complex processes from start to finish for various ongoing projects independently.
  • Have prior experience working with budgets and budget forecasting.
  • Be proficient with using Canva (or similar design software systems) and Adobe InDesign
  • Demonstrate expertise with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, scheduling tools (Outlook), video conferencing platforms, and the internet required in conjunction with database management. Some experience with processing and justifying expenditures, along with basic budget knowledge.
  • Demonstrate written and oral communication skills and be effective under pressure.
  • Utilize sound judgment, creativity, management, problem-solving skills and work as an effective member of a team, promoting quality and the goals of the Career Management Center.
  • Have exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills, and high level of confidentiality.
  • Be organized, set priorities, handle frequent interruption, and coordinate many ongoing activities.

  • Experience with, or ability to learn on-line recruitment scheduling software system.
