Research Support Specialists, Semiconductor Research Hub (2 Positions) - Brooks School of Public Policy - Brooks Tech Policy Institute

The Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy is seeking two Research Support Specialists for the Brooks Tech Policy Institute - Semiconductor Research Hub. The individuals in this role will play a key part in the research and analysis conducted by BTPI, contributing to the success of its projects through comprehensive data collection, statistical analysis, report writing, and grant preparation.

The Opportunity
The Research Support Specialists will contribute to projects that explore vulnerabilities in the semiconductor supply chain, assess cybersecurity risks, and analyze the strategic impacts of semiconductor technologies on global networks. Additionally, these positions will involve conducting network analyses to map the semiconductor industry's material and information flows and collaborating with stakeholders to support resilience in the supply chain. Beyond semiconductor research, the individual will also work on other emerging technology projects within BTPI, contributing to broader policy analysis and stakeholder engagement efforts across different domains.Key Responsibilities
These positions require candidates with a solid foundation in conducting research and the ability to use statistical software for data analysis. The Research Support Specialists will be responsible for authoring reports, collecting and analyzing data, managing grant budgets, and preparing research papers for publication. They will also support the principal investigator in the overall planning and preparation of research initiatives, assisting in writing grant proposals to secure future funding. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills in data analysis, research synthesis, and report writing, and will be committed to contributing to a collaborative research environment. The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Research and Data Analysis (30%)
- Conduct comprehensive data collection and analysis using statistical software (e.g., R or Stata).

- Manage the collection, preparation, verification, and analysis of highly complex data.

- Determine appropriate statistical methodologies and conduct detailed analysis to support research projects.

- Synthesize and interpret research results for contribution to publishable research reports, papers, and articles.

Report Writing and Publication Preparation (30%)
- Prepare research reports and papers for publication; contribute to publishable research reports, papers, and articles.

- Assist the principal investigator in the overall planning and preparation of research papers, articles, and reports for publication.

- Draft and edit technical sections of research publications, ensuring clarity and coherence.

Grant Writing and Management (20%)

- Assist in writing specific areas of grant proposals, contributing to the design and development of grant budgets.

- Manage grant budgets and financial resources, ensuring compliance with university and donor guidelines.

- Identify new funding opportunities and assist principal investigator in preparing proposals for future research funding.

Research Support and Coordination (15%)
- Provide complex technical support in writing, data management, and statistical analysis to support research objectives.

- Manage record-keeping processes and inventories; develop reports on technical operations and ensure compliance with appropriate research protocols (e.g., IACUC, IBC, IRB).

- Coordinate research activities, including working with research assistants and other team members to ensure project milestones are met.

Other position-related responsibilities (5%)

- Participate in projects with occasional work responsibility falling above or below current classification.

- Completion of any university-required compliance trainings.

- Master's degree and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination, including relevant research experience, data collection, data analysis, and report preparation.
- Effective research and data analysis skills with proficiency using statistical software for data analysis (R, Stata, etc) and ability to manage complex data sets and apply appropriate statistical analyses.
- Ability to synthesize and interpret research results for contribution to publishable reports and articles.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing research reports, contributing to publishable research papers, and managing research projects.
- Strong technical writing skills, with experience in contributing to and drafting grant proposals.
- Proactive, collaborative and flexible work style with experiences working with students, faculty, academic and internal and external community partners.
- Effective interpersonal communication and presentation skills.

- Detail-oriented with effective organizational and project-management skills to coordinate multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Computer proficiency using Microsoft Office software, administrative and research systems, and meeting/ collaboration tools.

- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field such as public policy, economics, data science, or related disciplines.

- Prior experience working in research support roles at academic or policy-focused institutes.

- Familiarity with grant management processes, including preparation of proposals and budgets.

- Experience in writing and contributing to research publications, including journal articles and white papers.Important Position Details
- These are on-site positions located in Ithaca, NY and eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role working remotely 1 day per week and in-person 4 days per week.
- These are Endowed, full-time (40-hours per week ), and grant funded positions for a one-year term with the potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
