Clean Harbors Hazardous Waste Field Chemist in Jacksonville, Florida

Clean Harbors is seeking an Environmental Field Chemist (CleanPack Chemist) to handle, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste in accordance with Federal/State/Local regulations and our company policies and procedures. This position will work both indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, customer sites and are responsible for assisting with lab packs within customer facilities, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections and lab moves. This is a customer facing position, working at customer sites daily .

The Environmental Field Chemist is NOT a laboratory-based Chemist.*

MUST have Chemistry knowledge and Lab packing experience.*

Clean Harbors Technical Services

  • Waste Disposal – Comprehensive disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste at Company-owned facilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;

  • Make chemical pickups throughout customer facility as directed;

  • Prepare computer-generated packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restrictions notifications.

  • Identify unknown laboratory chemicals when they are encountered.

  • Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance.

  • Perform inspections of staging, accumulating and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance.

  • Inspect storage area for leaks or spills.

  • Inspect drums for compliance with labeling regulations.

  • Prepare all necessary tracking paperwork.

  • Assign proper waste codes to all materials that are designated for disposal.

  • Maintain and manage waste profile data.

  • Ensure work area maintained in a neat and orderly manner;

  • Assisting other Chemists with the execution of assigned lab pack projects;

  • Participate in spill response on customer’s site as needed.

  • Conduct chemical bulking/consolidation as required;

  • Proper loading, packing and segregation of waste to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance;

Required Qualifications:

  • Organizational skills;

  • Health and Safety conscious;

  • Attention to detail;

  • Able to perform multiple tasks;

  • Ability to interface with customers;

  • Knowledge of RCRA requirements/regulations;

  • Knowledge of chemicals and background;

  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Environmental Protection;

  • Agency (EPA) waste codes, manifesting and Land Disposal Restrictions (LDR);

  • Proficiency in Windows based applications;

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;

  • 2 years college or specialized Chemistry/Biology/Environmental Science/Related;

  • Chemistry background is required;

  • Attention to detail, able to take and follow direction, and to perform multiple tasks;

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Reactive Materials certification

  • CleanPack Chemist Training Course

  • Lab Pack experience is preferred;

  • 40 Hour OSHA, DOT training preferred;

  • DOT Training
