Iowa PBS is seeking a talentedSocial Media Producer (Production Assistant) to develop, coordinate, and execute digital content across online and social media platforms.

As part of the American Graduate: Jobs Explained initiative, powered by public media, this role will help high school students and early job seekers explore well-paying, in-demand careers. By leveraging public media’s local and national reach, Iowa PBS will create engaging social media content, tools, and resources to help young people discover career opportunities—including those that don’t require traditional college pathways. Through this initiative, Iowa PBS will play a key role in connecting the next generation with valuable career insights and workforce trends in healthcare, green jobs, and manufacturing industries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and produce content for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Stories, and the Iowa PBS website.

  • Produce 2-3 social videos per week, often collaborating with local businesses or serving as on-screen talent.

  • Adapt national PBS content to align with Iowa PBS’s local digital initiatives.

  • Engage and grow young audiences (ages 15-26) on social media platforms, particularly Instagram and YouTube Shorts.

  • Attend weekly meetings with partner stations and virtual professional development workshops for the duration of the grant.

  • Collaborate with the project team to coordinate the development, production, and delivery of social media content supporting initiative goals.

  • Analyze audience feedback and digital trends to refine content strategies.

    Required Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of digital platforms, audiences, and trends.

  • Proficiency in media production for online platforms, including short-form videos and social media content.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud and/or other video editing software.

  • Experience in journalism, storytelling, and editorial judgment in a fast-paced environment.

  • Creative writing skills for multimedia storytelling, with superior writing and copy-editing abilities.

  • Knowledge of SEO, online accessibility, and basic coding is a plus.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Solid understanding of digital metrics and KPIs, with the ability to use data to inform content strategies.

  • High level of initiative, professionalism, and ethical conduct.

    This is a part-time, temporary, grant-funded position, expected to last 23 months.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in video production, multimedia production, broadcast journalism, mass communications, film, or commercial art and graphics (including broadcast graphics);

OR

Equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of experience for 30 semester hours of education (up to a maximum of four years).
