Burns & McDonnell Safety Program Manager - Corporate Safety (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

The Safety Program Manager is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs and procedures while fostering a safety-conscious culture within the organization. This role will create safety leadership development and training programs, from inception through roll-out, including the design and implementation of processes, procedures, strategy, execution plans, resource planning, risk management, and reporting tools. The Safety Program Manager will lead the safety council teams in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of safety, client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, and overall outstanding service.

  • Lead the development and execution of overall training and development efforts for Corporate Safety programs, strategies and guidelines that align with strategic business initiatives to achieve objectives and key results. Liaison and work closely with Training & Education staff to incorporate safety leadership and program process content training into the overall Burns & McDonnell training and education programs.

  • Design, develop and manage training programs focused on both safety leadership and processes to be deployed across Burns & McDonnell’s family of companies.

  • Collaborate, mentor and coach cross-functional safety councils and organizational leadership across global practices, regional offices and subsidiaries to ensure corporate safety programs are integrated into all aspects of the organization’s operations and projects.

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external safety organizations to focus on building leadership and cultural alignment while maintaining compliance with the safety program across Burns & McDonnell’s family of companies, global practices and international and regional offices.

  • Responsible for management of corporate safety program training budget and expenditure of funds.

  • Lead safety development and training programs and associated key results and initiatives, including the selection and management of safety vendors and consultants as needed.

  • Lead assessment of gaps in current corporate safety programs and create and implement mitigation plans.

  • Lead, monitor, and track safety training compliance metrics, analyze data, and make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Responsible for the recruitment, development, training, and retention of staff.

  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluations for department staff.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the department.

  • Responsible for interpreting the organization's policies, purposes, and goals to staff.

  • Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence.

  • Responsible for diversity initiatives.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or related field and 10 years related experience required or applicable years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement required

  • Proven experience in safety management, training and leadership development.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret data to make informed decisions.

  • Expert project management and organizational skills.

  • In depth knowledge of safety regulations, standards and best practices.

  • Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage across multiple groups within a matrix organization.

  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
