Lenoir Community College Assistant Baseball Coach (Part-time) in Kinston, North Carolina

The Assistant Baseball Coach will assist the Head Baseball Coach in leading the baseball team in coaching, recruiting, counseling, conditioning, and evaluating for the athletic team as directed.

The duties of the Assistant Baseball Coach include, but are not limited to:

  • Implement coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop student athletes' skills and teamwork
  • Analyze performance of team and adjust strategies as needed
  • Evaluate opponents and develop game strategies
  • Plan and conduct practices and other activities in preparation for competition
  • Ensure that all expenditures are properly documented and in compliance with college and NJCAA regulations
  • Assist with the administration of policies and procedures with respect to academic expectations for team members
  • Identify and develop team strategy for recruitment; conducts recruiting trips following institution policies
  • Inform program participants (athletes and staff) of team rules including conditioning; physical exam and athletic training requirements; practice attendance and participation rules; conduct and behavior expectations relative to practice, during competition, on trips, in the classroom, on campus and in the community; appropriate dress; drugs, alcohol and/or tobacco rules; relations with officials and opponents; responsibility for actions; and any other information the Head Coach and Athletic Director feels is pertinent
  • Cooperate with the Athletic Trainer on physical examinations, insurance claims, medical help for injured athletes and respecting the decision by the trainer to hold out an athlete due to injury
  • Recruit student athletes in the high schools primarily within N.C. and adhere to the recruiting rules established by the NJCAA
  • Attend all practices, trips and scheduled competitions including evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance
  • Manage equipment inventory and related duties as directed
  • Drive passenger van if needed
  • Strive to provide the College and the community with a quality athletic program
  • Represent the College, the athletic department, and the community in a positive manner
  • Will be evaluated by the Athletic Director/Dean of Student Services and must demonstrate program administration responsibility
  • Read, understand, and abide by the current National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Constitution and Bylaws, the Region X Constitution and Bylaws, and the sport rule book as identified in the NJCAA Constitution and Bylaws
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations of Lenoir Community College
  • Establish and maintain positive relations with colleagues, college faculty and staff and community members including, students, parents, the press, the surrounding high schools and other interested parties
  • Perform any and all other related duties as assigned or directed in order to promote, further, and ensure the effective and efficient operation of Lenoir Community College

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution is preferred
  • 1-2 years of coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level and/or have a background in baseball at a high level
  • Demonstrate experience in training and instructing athletes in the game of baseball
  • Experience in managing a sport team and knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations
  • Valid driver's license
  • The candidate must not be a currently enrolled at Lenoir Community College as a student

Working Conditions

  • Moderate physical effort requiring long periods of standing, walking, and periodic lifting of 70 pounds or more
  • Must be able to stretch, stoop, bend and maneuver to facilitate all elements of cleaning the buildings
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders up to 10 feet
  • Travel and non-traditional hours
