Lenoir Community College Human Resources Development Instructor (Part-time) in Kinston, North Carolina

Continuing Education Human Resource Development classes aid unemployed or underemployed students in searching and applying for employment, learning employability skills and/or basic computer skills. Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to provide a comprehensive Human Resources Development (HRD) instructional program committed to quality teaching and successful student achievement. Employees in this classification will be responsible for providing classroom instruction; administering tests; evaluating student performance and maintaining accurate documentation as required by state standards.

This position will remain open until filled.

Lenoir Community College is a comprehensive institution which places primary emphasis on excellence in classroom instruction. Continuing Education Instructors are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the college:

  1. Mastery of Subject Matter
    • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline
    • Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline
    • Connect their subject matter with related fields
    • Stay current in their subject matter through professional development, through involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences or workshops
    • Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate
  2. Teaching Performance
    • Teach a course load appropriate to their field or discipline
    • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning
    • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
    • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students needs
    • Employ available instructional technology when appropriate
    • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments
    • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives
  3. Evaluation of Student Learning

    • Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
    • Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
    • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines
    • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
    • Must demonstrate ability to create professional work related documents such as cover letters, resumes, and applications

    : - Degree, certification, and/or NC licensure in a vocational and/or life skills subject area from a regionally accredited institution preferred - Advanced knowledge of computer applications including: Microsoft Word, Excel, use of various Internet browsers, email use and features, Internet job searching and completing applications online - Candidate with teaching experience is preferred - Must have knowledge of employability, interview, and resume writing skills and the ability to work with diverse populations - Candidate must be able to develop lessons/course syllabus and maintain attendance time sheets and rosters - Candidate should possess effective written and oral communication skills, and be able to serve individuals from all socio-economic levels and ethnic groups
