Mechanical Engineering Technician

(Contract Position)

Sigma Design is a product development, engineering, and manufacturing firm. Based out of the Pacific Northwest, we offer innovative concept through production services to diverse clients around the globe. We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our team in Kirkland, WA This position is a contract with an expected duration of 9 months.

    Primary Function:

    The Mechanical Engineering Technician is responsible for maintaining and upgrading prototypes, products, tools and assemblies in support of Sigma Design’s engineering activities. Provide technical support in the form of documentation, troubleshooting, and design reviews as required.

    Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:

  • Build and rework prototypes consistent with engineering and other specifications through mechanical assembly, point-to-point electrical wiring, soldering, joining with the aid of adhesives

  • Maintain and upgrade proof of concept devices and prototypes using pneumatics, sensors, motors, cameras, flex circ uits, textiles, etc.

  • Systematically t roubleshoot design issues as they arise and share results with engineers for further analysis

  • Conduct component level debug and provide solutions to complex problems

  • Independently perform electromechanical tests and prepare written documentation of test results

  • Provide general support for the engineering team

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment including tools and assembly areas

  • Provide detailed written feedback to engineers in an effort to improve the product from an assembly perspective

    Education and Experience: (Knowledge, skills, & abilities)

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required. Associates Degree highly desirable

  • Minimum of 2+ years of recent and relevant experience required

  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams and mechanical prints

  • Familiarity with GD&T preferred

  • Experience of using multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, soldering irons (IPC certification is a plus) and other electrical lab equipment

  • Ability to follow strict engineering directions and procedures

  • Hands on prototyping skills and mechanical aptitude

  • Basic math skills and computer literacy skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and basic file structure understanding, networks, and web navigation.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group

  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to SIGMADESIGN Core Values

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint . GSuite a plus.

  • Pass a post-offer background verification

    Work Environment:

    Standard lab/production environment. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients or suppliers. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
