About Miami Correctional Facility:
As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Miami Correctional Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The Miami Correctional Facility is a maximum security Correctional facility for adult males. The Miami Correctional Facility is located in Bunker Hill. Miami Correctional Facility is on the southeast corner of the Grissom Aeroplex, just south of Peru, Indiana, in Miami County. Miami Correctional Facility offers several opportunities for work and educational programs, including a program where incarcerated individuals translate reading materials to Braille and a sewing shop that provides items for partner organizations.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
You will have other Correctional Caseworker 4 Duties as assigned. You will also assist with Coordinating Re-Entry programming.
- The PREA Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) within Miami Correctional Facility. This role involves ensuring that the agency adheres to state standards regarding the prevention, detection, and response to sexual abuse at Miami Correctional Facility. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to promote a safe and compliant environment.
The PREA compliance manager has sufficient time and authority to coordinate the facility’s efforts to comply with the PREA standards. The Warden shall designate a staff member to serve as the PREA Compliance Manager. The staff member designated to serve in this capacity should have broad experience and the knowledge, skills, and abilities to implement and evaluate the facility’s sexual abuse prevention program and compliance with all PREA standards.
The duties of the PREA Compliance Manager shall include:
Monitoring PREA standards compliance at the facility by conducting quarterly compliance reviews.
Monitoring the need for new SART first responders to attend training.
Ensuring that the facility has a program for the evaluation, treatment, and counseling of sexual abuse victims and sexual abuse perpetrators.
Assisting in the identification and utilization of community resources available for the provision or development of emotional support services for incarcerated individuals through victim advocates and collection of evidence through forensic exams by SANEs or SAFEs.
Completing Sexual Incident Reports for all allegations of sexual abuse and sexual harassment occurring in the facility. This information can be found through the use of the facility incident reports and any other sources deemed appropriate. The SEXUAL INCIDENT REPORT is to be initiated no later than one week from the initial report of sexual abuse or sexual harassment being made or upon completion of the investigation.
Ensuring the PREA Potential Aggressor flags and PREA Potential Victim flags are updated in the incarcerated individual information system/juvenile data system based upon the most recent Sexual Violence Assessment Tool.
Serving as Facility PREA Committee Chairperson and managing and preparing the facility for PREA audits by:
Providing required facility documentation
Making staff and incarcerated individuals available for interview
Providing auditors with a facility tour
Completing a corrective action plan, when applicable
What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:
Possession of a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE)
At least one (1) year related work experience in social work, corrections, criminal justice, or related field. Substitutions: Each one (1) year of related education may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
Within 90 days of hire, you must obtain the Indiana Risk Assessment System Certification through the Indiana Office of Court Services.
Must test negative on all drug screenings.
Upon hire, the ability to successfully complete all mandatory training including the DOC Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses.
Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
