Role Overview:
As the Industry Operations Manager in this role, you will serve at the senior level of administration in Indiana Correctional Industries (ICI). You will be responsible for overseeing all administrative, technical, and supervisory roles and industry manufacturing operations at the institutional level. This includes operations in multiple correctional institutions throughout Indiana. This role supports Miami Correctional Facility.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $67,314.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Plan and maintain work systems, procedures and policies that enable and encourage optimum performance of each operation and obtainment of goals.
Establish and maintain relevant controls and feedback systems to monitor operations.
Monitor and direct necessary corrective measures in the areas of shop productivity, shipping performance, quality reports, performance against standards and material usage.
Evaluate the efficiency of operations according to organizational objectives and applies improvements where needed.
Monitor expenditures, review, and analyze the fiscal status of the operation.
Assist in the preparation and development of annual and biennial budgets to include building and equipment needs, staffing, trucking requirements, production capacity and offender workforce needs.
Provide leadership and oversight of assigned areas, operations, construction projects and safety and environmental management.
Develop programs and methods to improve the manufacturing, warehousing, and production process, as well as quality control, shrinkage, safety, and environmental deficiencies.
Offer operational advice relating to industry plant performance, production schedules, manufacturing processes, product quality, material and labor reporting, preventive maintenance, shop safety and environmental health management.
Analyze work force utilization, facility industry shop layout, and operational data to determine efficient utilization of offender workers and equipment.
Review the production and delivery schedule for assigned areas.
Communicate with sales, procurement, engineering staff, plant management and Plant Supervisors/Foreman on production schedule problems, plant projects to implement production lines and offer creative ideas to cut costs, improve efficiency and control quality.
Perform work in accordance with approved health and safety practices.
Initiate, as needed, new or replacement equipment justification, specifications, suggested vendors, and related documents pertaining to the shop operations.
Encourage active offender participation in the United States Department of Labor Apprentice Programs and other re-entry programs.
Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
Some essential functions of this position may be performed onsite at the agency’s worksite or other assigned worksites while some essential functions of this position may be eligible for work from home authorization in accordance with policy. Remote work authorization is not automatic and is dependent upon operational needs and agency approval.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
