Tyco Fire Products, LP Mechanical Engineer III, Lead Engineering Analyst in Lansdale, Pennsylvania

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Work with product management, end users and subject matter experts to create a prioritized feature list or requirements for software products related to mechanical offerings. Derive technical requirements from feature list to create workflows, user journey maps and test cases for the development team. Work with the software development team to create the necessary algorithms for the software products. Act as an internal subject matter resource to the development team for engineered and pre-engineered mechanical systems. Be familiar enough with the products to demonstrate them to product management, stakeholders, and customers. Use engineering knowledge and familiarity with codes (including NFPA and UL) to ensure software products are in compliance with internal and external requirements. Coordinate with 3rd party vendors on integrating external software modules into JCI's fire suppression product portfolio. Analyze and/or validate the results obtained from fluid dynamics and hydraulic calculations in JCI vs stand-alone applications. Support developers in the debugging and testing phases with knowledge of programming languages and tools as well as the mechanically engineered systems. Contribute to the formation of and adherence to good software coding and mechanical engineering practices. Cultivate partnership with marketing, sales, technical support, R&D, demand planning and other internal JCI teams on an as needed basis to obtain necessary support for success of software programs. As a lead analyst own the engineering solution strategy and create frameworks to assist junior members on their specific tasks and with integration. Be a champion of transformation and help programmers adopt new software development methodologies like scaled agile framework (SAFe). Create, and maintain agile team's backlog in accordance with priorities established in product backlog by product management. Telecommuting: 100% Telecommuting.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. 3 years in a mechanical engineering role. Additionally, the applicant must have experience with: (1) Using fluid mechanics principles to analyze third party hydraulic calculation software and establish the input and output requirements for successful integration with special hazard fire suppression software; (2) Using knowledge of PHP, SQL, C, C++, python, and other programming languages to identify issues in existing code and propose fixes to resolve inconsistencies in engineering, programming, and database logics; (3) Working with product management to create a prioritized list of features and user stories for SAFe projects or alternatively create requirements for waterfall projects and log them using tools like MS Projects, DevOps, JIRA, Miro, MS Word and Excel, for highly technical engineering design software; (4) Translating mechanical engineering knowledge / customer know-how into workflows, UML diagrams, algorithms, and other technical documents as necessary for programmers to code against; (5) Gaining fire suppression system knowledge by reading design, installation, service, and maintenance manuals, attending training on fire suppression systems, keeping abreast with agency standards, and collaborating with subject matter experts; (6) Working with testing teams, technical support staff, product management and cyber security teams to create acceptance strategy to build quality within the software; (7) Presenting highly technical work to a varied audience of developers and internal stakeholders including senior leadership or at conferences; and (8) Using computer aided design knowledge to develop in-house parametric modeler which can create scalable kitchen equipment and suppression system parts in 3D.
