Dartmouth Health Drug Diversion Specialist in Lebanon, New Hampshire
Overview
Full Time/ Partially Remote Position
The Drug Diversion Specialist supports the daily operations of the Dartmouth Health Drug Diversion Prevention Program, including without limitation diversion education, surveillance, auditing, and investigation activities across Dartmouth Health member locations. Reporting to Director, Drug Diversion Prevention Program, the position will be primarily assigned to Drug Diversion Prevention Program activities at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth Hithcock Clinics, with additional health system responsibilities and duties at other Dartmouth Health locations as assigned.
Responsibilities
Maintains the structure and processes of a comprehensive Drug Diversion Prevention Program at assigned member location(s).
Co-chairs assigned member location(s) Controlled Substance Diversion Prevention Program Steering Committee with member location(s) Pharmacy department leader.
Maintains assigned member location(s) drug diversion prevention, detection, and response policies/procedures.
Provides leadership in multidisciplinary drug diversion prevention education activities.
Collaborates with all departments/disciplines on controlled substance and drug diversion-related issues, serving as a diversion prevention resource and providing best practice recommendations for controlled substance management
Engages in comprehensive surveillance and auditing activities to detect drug diversion, in collaboration with Pharmacy, Nursing and Anesthesia.
Ensures appropriate collection and analysis to drug diversion-related data, and maintains a database containing all data collected that may relate to drug diversion.
Leads investigations into suspected drug diversion incidents in collaboration with local leaders and member site Drug Diversion Rapid Response Team.
Ensures that internal and external regulatory reporting occurs, as required, following a confirmed diversion event, in collaboration with Office of General Counsel.
Leads cause analysis following confirmed or suspected diversion events to gain insight into potential opportunities for system improvement and diversion risk mitigation.
Presents institutional drug diversion reports to Senior Leaders and Board of Trustees as requested.
Serves as a diversion prevention resource across all Dartmouth Health member locations.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
Registered Nurse with 5 years of experience in healthcare safety/quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and leadership.
Master’s Degree in Nursing, Analytics, or Healthcare-related field.
Experience with nursing, pharmacy, hospital, and clinical operations, required.
Experience in drug diversion prevention, detection, and response processes, preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop positive relationships with key stakeholders, strong conflict management skills.
Ability to work with data and draw inferences from multiple sources and types of information.
Ability to analyze complex issues, and develop relevant and realistic improvement plans/recommendations.
Experience planning and managing complex projects.
Demonstrated excellence in facilitation and teaching.
Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
Microsoft Office Suite competence: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Familiarity, and ability to stay current, with relevant DEA, Board of Pharmacy, FDA, Joint Commission, CMS standards and regulations.
Must thrive working in fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient.
Ability and willingness to be available on call.
Required Licensure/Certifications
Registered Nurse with New Hampshire and Vermont eligibility.
