Citigroup Senior Underwriter & Team Lead, Wealth Credit Management Underwriting in London, United Kingdom

The Lending business of Wealth offers a diverse product range including Securities Backed Lending (SBL), Commercial Real Estate (CRE) and Residential Real Estate finance (RRE), Aircraft, Art-backed Finance as well as tailored solutions to target market clients of the Private Bank. Wealth Credit Management (WCM) is a critical component of the First Line of Defence for credit risk management and works within the business with Independent Risk partners to ensure best-in-class risk and controls, as well as client responsiveness.

Key responsibilities of the group include credit analysis, documentation, risk identification, exposure monitoring and associated administration associated with Citi Global Wealth lending activities. Within WCM, the Senior Underwriter/Team Lead Wealth Credit Management Underwriting UK/EUR/MEA will manage a portfolio of clients with complex structures and/or complex lending requirements (focus on Securities Backed Lending) with large limits as well as a team of underwriters and assist the regional head of Wealth WCM Underwriting & Portfolio on issues of a regulatory nature and related to Internal Audit/Business Risk and Controls/Banking & International Credit Review as well as any strategic initiatives. The Senior Underwriter/Team Lead reports directly to the WCM Underwriting & Portfolio Head for UK/EUR/MEA.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the regional WCM Underwriting & Portfolio Head with setting the strategy and execution of the underwriting function including setting the regional business culture which demands excellence in analysis, credit underwriting, client focused delivery, proactive portfolio management and monitoring, strong risk and control controls environment, thought leadership, regulatory adherence and strong deal execution.

  • Ensure timely delivery of high quality approval processes related to transaction origination and to periodic reviews as required.

  • Ensure continues adoption of best practices in credit analysis, underwriting, portfolio monitoring, early detection of problem credit and drives regional consistency across UK/EUR/MEA.

  • Facilitate relationships with key clients in Banking and Risk and with key regulators, Internal Audit, and control functions as applicable and support the Lending Advisors and Products Leads in UK/EUR/MEA and other regional function/business partners on strategic initiatives/projects.

  • Senior credit approval authority covering large and complex underwritings/derivatives within a Wealth Management business or comparable Institutional Banking experience. Strong knowledge of Wholesale lending (wealth management oriented with focus on Securities Backed Lending) product and business, including an overall lending lifecycle.

  • Good understanding of credit products and complex financing and product structures.

  • Provides well-reasoned, consistently balanced assessments of risk/return trade-offs associated with transactions and client relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in Wealth/Private Banking lending underwriting (ideally with Securities Backed Lending experience) including managerial experience of underwriting teams.

  • Senior Credit Officer designation or equivalent.

  • Proven ability to effectively engage with internal and external clients, regulators, Internal Audit and Banking & International Credit Review as well as with external audit.

  • Demonstrates strong ethics and integrity; dynamic, flexible and with strong communication and presentation skills (adept at presenting effectively to audiences of various sizes and constituencies).

  • Can make decisions under pressure and short timeline with excellent verbal communicative skills and demonstrated influencing and negotiating ability, resolve conflicts amongst various constituencies.

Education:

  • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred.
