You will :

  • Analysis, designs, performs programming, debugs and modifies software. Solves problems with code for firmware applications. Applies analog and digital hardware and software operating systems. Typically programs in machine language, assembly language and high level languages, (e.g., C, C++)

  • Participate in firmware architecture and development for enterprise level SSD across multiple functional areas.

Candidate should have broad knowledge of front-end, FTL, back-end, and NAND of SSD design. Conduct validation of pre-silicon and post-silicon ASIC, debug device and system level issues. Efficiently work with various profiling tools to identify performance bottlenecks. Work with multi-functional teams to debug sophisticated problems requiring a systems-level understanding of the product. Perform debugging and failure analysis employing bus analyzers, kernel debuggers, and other tools. Develop firmware features and modules in high-level language including C and Python.

As a Principal Firmware Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc., you will build groundbreaking high-performance controller firmware for volatile and non-volatile memory systems.

You will assist in the evaluation, creation, build, bench testing, debugging, and failure analyzes of firmware for new high-performance memory controllers and Solid State Drives (SSD) that will improve performance, while reducing power, latency and SoC (System on Chip) complexity for the target sectors.

You can expect to partner multi-disciplinary Engineers seek multi-functional product development issues. You will triage failures, file bug reports, and help the development teams with isolating issues.

How To Qualify

  • 7+ years of proven experience with storage Firmware development and debug using protocol analyzer.

  • 7+ Years of Knowledge or working experience with Nand flash

  • Strong knowledge of SSD architecture including I/O Data Path, FTL, and NAND management

  • Strong solid understanding of firmware development, verification, system failure analysis, embedded systems design and real time embedded systems.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to find creative solutions to difficult problems.

  • Strong proven understanding of software engineering principles and designing and developing firmware using assembly and C/C++ programming.

  • Strong debugging skills in an embedded firmware application including:

  • Using development tools and IDE's such as Slick Edit, SourcePoint and Realview.

  • Problem re-creation and trapping

  • Logging and diagnostics

  • Experience with digital hardware design and test equipment such as logic/bus analyzers

  • Strong working knowledge analyzing complex firmware and hardware issues.

  • Strong knowledge working identifying and optimizing performance of critical algorithms.

  • Knowledge of the Agile software development process life cycle.

  • Solid understanding of structured firmware development process and life cycle.

  • Strong skills in communicating complex technical ideas/concepts.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively (written and verbal) across multiple locations and teams.

The US base salary range that Micron Technology estimates it could pay for this full-time position is:

$149,000.00 - $254,000.00

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries of the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, tenure and relevant education or training. Additional compensation may include benefits, discretionary bonuses and equity.
