Responsibilities

Weatherford have a great opportunity for an experienced Software Engineer to join the team in East Leake. The Software Engineer will be responsible for the development, and maintenance of our suite of software applications used for the interpretation and analysis of geophysical data within the oil and gas exploration industry.

You will be working closely with a small but quickly expanding department that plays a key role within our global business. We develop state of the art software that deals with the full geophysical data lifecycle, from acquisition via hardware through to processing and interpretation and finally client delivery and are currently moving from desktop to the cloud.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in all these areas of software development, ranging from user interface design to back-end data processing. As we are beginning our cloud migration, you will be working on a range of innovative projects using the latest technologies and encouraged to find and leverage new technologies for the benefit of the software being developed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop new functionality for the suite of wireline data analysis and interpretation cloud applications used to deliver geophysical data from rig site to cloud and provide visualization and interpretation of this data.

  • Investigate reports of problems with the software systems supported by the software development department and fix these systems as required.

  • Work with other software teams, both in East Leake and locations around the world, to provide integrated and consistent software products across the company.

  • Follow the agile processes defined for addressing maintenance and support issues and for new development, using systems provided by the company for this purpose.

  • As required, maintain any of the existing software applications and systems developed by the department.

  • Abide by the company’s health and safety policies to ensure a safe working environment.

Qualifications

  • A numerate degree in a related discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Electronics, etc).

  • You should have a good understanding of the principles of object-oriented programming with 3-5 years’ experience of software development primarily in C#.

  • Good candidates with 1-3 years’ experience working with C#, .NET and the web technologies above, and a willingness to learn Cloud technologies will also be considered.

  • Experience of developing cloud applications is essential as we are starting to migrate our applications from desktop to cloud.

  • It is desirable that you have experience with .NET, Microsoft Visual Studio, HTML5, CSS/LESS, Javascript / Typescript, ASP.NET / MVC5 / WebAPI, React, SQL, or other database technologies and unit testing.

  • It would also be useful to be familiar with Azure DevOps / TFS and Agile / Scrum development methodologies and have good mathematical skills.

  • Essential personal attributes include a strong attention to detail, good work ethic, and the ability to work well in a team.

  • You should be creative, enthusiastic and demonstrate integrity and trustworthiness.
