Service Source Receptionist (Part-Time) in Louisville, Kentucky

Job Summary

This position pays $17.20 per hour with $4.57 Health and Welfare (H&W). Responsible for operating a multi-line switchboard effectively by meeting the necessary requirements by VA Medical Center.

Primary Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. These duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review.

  • Operate a government provided E-Private Branch Exchange switchboard with 28 central office trunks, 24 FTS trunks, 24 IT trunks for 1800 telephones and respond to calls in acquired order.

  • Operate paging system for hospital pagers and overhead paging system.

  • Make various daily announcements as requested by Veteran Affairs (VA) staff.

  • Gather patient information as requested.

  • Retrieve inpatient roster from Emergency Room.

    Additional Responsibilities

  • Retrieve Gains and Losses Report from Emergency Room. Receive a regular published listing from various departments regarding on-call staff and direct calls to those locations.

  • Act as a liaison between the Membership Services and the Medical Center, monitoring 24 code green alarms, and 4 manually activated burglar/code green alarms.

  • Act as a liaison between the Medical Center and electrical contractor, monitoring fire emergencies and following code red procedures. Respond to walk-up traffic with requested information as to the location of patients, clinics, and offices.

  • Respond to code blues.

  • Maintain Lost and Found log and tag all articles.

  • Direct courier deliveries of candy, flowers, etc. to the appropriate department.

  • Clean and sanitize work area(s) after every shift.

  • Complete Shift Report and log all codes that occurred during shift.

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

    Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required.

  • 1 year experience in a high demand and fast pace environment preferred.

  • Must be able to obtain a VA security clearance.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate a PC with functional knowledge of Microsoft Office, primarily Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as Windows graphical users’ interface. Possess basic typing skills.

  • Working knowledge of medical staff and departments.

  • Ability to read, write and receive written and/or verbal instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and understand verbal and written communications.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills for interfacing with customers.

  • An individual who can relate well to people at all levels of an organization.

  • Ability to add, subtract, solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists.

  • Must be able to work all shifts.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
