Major/Essential Functions:

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in the School of Health Professions at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) invites applications for a full-time (12-month) generalist physical therapy faculty position in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

The appointment is in the entry-level DPT program at the Odessa, TX campus with opportunities to contribute to the post-professional Doctor of Science in Rehabilitation Science and the Doctor of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Science programs.

The School of Health Professions is home to more than 2000 students, and the DPT program at TTUHSC includes over 200 students with diverse backgrounds across three cohorts. The DPT program is one of six programs within the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, which also includes the Master of Athletic Training, Doctor of Occupational Therapy, Post-Professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy, Doctor of Science in Rehabilitation Science, and Doctor of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Science. The faculty member will work collaboratively with faculty from these and other programs and departments within the School and University.

The successful candidate will join a student-focused DPT program with a record of innovation and excellence in educating entry-level physical therapy practitioners extending back 40 years. Our history includes being one of the first programs in the United States to utilize a multi-campus, synchronous education model for lecture content. The DPT Program at TTUHSC is one program, with content delivered across three campuses: Amarillo, Lubbock, and Odessa, TX. Students attend lecture synchronously with the use of a live and interactive video conferencing system with lectures being delivered by faculty spread across all three campuses. Lab activities are taught locally by content-area experts.

Responsibilities of the faculty position include:

  • Teach didactic and lab courses in the entry-level DPT curriculum

  • Guide and advise students in academic success and professional development through the entry-level DPT program

Preferred Qualifications:

This is a generalist faculty position. An ideal candidate will have:

  • Clinical experience in foundational skills, outpatient, inpatient/acute, wound care, and/or pediatric PT practice

  • Interest in contributing to the DPT Clinical Education team

  • Earned terminal degree (PhD, ScD, EdD, or similar)

  • Three years of experience in an academic role

  • Three years of clinical experience

  • History of scholarly activity
