CITY OF LUBBOCK Technical Systems Intern Lubbock, Texas

: Coordinates the creation of geospatial information as part of an enterprise GIS system. Coordinates the operations of and trains others on the use of asset management systems, work order systems and the city's enterprise GIS system for Public Works Departments.

: - Coordinate work of Public Works GIS Data acquisition for inclusion in the enterprise GIS System. Edit and create geospatial features in the enterprise GIS System including the creation of new feature classes when needed for Public Works. In GIS, maintain the Public Works inventory of streets, alleys, maintenance contract history and other data when requested by supervisors of Public Works; - Coordinate/Liaison with Information Technology on the maintenance and improvements of current database systems, including pavement management system, work order system and Public Works GIS data; - Act as primary Public Works liaison for implementation of new software; - Assist Information Technology and Public Information Office with Public Works pages on city web site; - Prepare maps and reports from GIS for Pavement Management Operations, Budget Presentations and other purposes as needed by Public Works. This includes exporting maps to .pdf and .jpg files for use in printed reports and power point presentations. Also, export map layers to be used by other programs such as Google Earth; - Oversee and update operational procedures of systems to optimize the daily functions of Public Works departments including data entry in the systems and maintain routine reports from the systems; - Prepare new specific reports as requested by Public Works Supervisors. Must be able to train others on the use of these applications and reports; - Assist Pavement Management Operations in the use of pavement management system and GIS for their maintenance of inventory, condition rating of pavements, planning of maintenance contracts and tracking of contracts;

- Provide GIS data and/or maps for other City departments, outside agencies and the public; - Import GIS data from other sources, GIS data from one coordinate system to another, create other data formats from existing data, scan rectify and utilize images to validate datasets; - Provide Public Works Technical Support for the Emergency Operations Center; - Train users and editors on the Public Works databases and on GIS software; - Work on special project requests; - Performs related work as assigned.

: Completion of a bachelor degree in engineering, GIS, MIS or a related field; with an additional two to four years of experience with GIS software, Work Order systems, and Report Creation. Training and experience with ESRI software is preferred.

: Knowledge of: - ESRI ArcGIS, Microsoft Access, HVJ IMMP Work Orders, HVJ IMMP Data Viewer, HVJ IMMP Pavement Rating Application. Microsoft Office Programs; - Principals of Management Information Systems; - Basic principles and practices of engineering, surveying, and drafting.

***Ability to: *** - Prepare and maintain GIS base maps and databases; - Create and/or modify database applications; - Implement utilization of new or modified database applications; - Interpret surveying data; - Communicate effectively orally and in writing; - Organize, prioritize, and produce results within given deadlines; - Supervise and coordinate the work of technical support staff; - Solve system problems with long term and efficient solutions; - Support operational staff during emergency operations. *Physical Requirement : * - Continuously lift and carry up to 10 pounds; - Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds; - Frequently stand and walk during the shift; - Occasionally climb stairs or other inclined surfaces; - Occasionally bend and kneel during the shift; - Push and pull objects; - Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees; - Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing; - Place arms above, at and below shoulder height.
