THE OPPORTUNITY

Title: General Manager - Warehouse and Logistics

Location: Lutterworth, UK

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our growing Warehouse and Logistics team at Iron Mountain in the role of General Manager. This high profile role will be based in Lutterworth and will be responsible for managing one of Iron Mountain’s key client contracts, a major retailer from the food sector.

In this role you will be responsible for managing service delivery, cost management, revenue enablement and people leadership across multiple facilities and multiple service functions. To monitor, measure and maintain IM regulations and processes, to deliver our primary objective of total customer satisfaction through best in class service delivery in a safe working environment where the wellbeing of our colleagues, visitors, clients and suppliers is priority.

Your role in our mission:

  • First class delivery of service through the alignment of priorities to the business strategy and ensuring a focussed approach to optimise revenue and costs, ensuring priorities are communicated effectively

  • Ensure compliance with Iron mountain Core values and Code of Ethics

  • Management and support as directed for the day to day running of a site(s) or specific contract(s)

  • Coach, train and mentor and relevant direct reports to enable effective staff management in all areas of the employee life cycle

  • Encourages a continuous improvement culture through encouraged development of any direct reports through collaboration with various divisions within the business,

  • Encourage a culture of succession planning, looking for development opportunities for future leaders.

  • Seeks innovation and ideas from the team to drive improvements, looking for evidence of demonstrated innovations

  • Responsible for overseeing the delivery and implementation of all strategic business directives including health and safety, continuous improvement, succession planning, budget optimisation, process and policy compliance

  • Build long term relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to drive the business forward, to enable positive results maintaining focus on continuous improvement

  • Interface with customers in terms of day-to-day requirements and problems demonstrating our core values in every interaction.

  • Oversee the maintenance of high quality customer relationships maintaining satisfaction in delivery of services

  • Create a high performing culture within their team, working across different functions, building relationships and driving continuous improvement

  • Oversee the completion of all daily and weekly reports and logs for all teams/sites ensuring records are retained within our records retention guidance

  • Ensure compliance within the code of ethics and in particular the security of client data through adherence to process and policy in respect of receiving and/or releasing customer records/media

  • Promote best practice through the compliance of policy and process within business standards

  • Ensure that excellent communication of our goals and strategies is paramount across all levels of employee in order to drive the performance of the business and maintain clarity in information.

  • Coach, train and mentor relevant direct reports to enable effective staff management in all areas of the employee life cycle

  • Conduct yearly staff appraisals of direct reports and review appraisals of their reports in turn, ensuring consistency in ratings.

  • Contribute to the setting of team targets for the IC plan for the site/region, and in line with business priorities.

  • Encourage a consistent approach to all personnel situations taking into consideration fairness, honesty and integrity

  • Lead the selection of the right people into the right positions to achieve and exceed objectives, and also with a view to long-term succession planning.

  • Oversee any relevant facility management to the standards required for customer satisfaction and employee health and safety with understanding to the effect on the P&L, forecasting known variances accordingly.

  • Ensure relevant operating systems are used properly within the teams/sites, using KPIs to analyse service delivery performance, identify and implement improvements holding direct reports accountable for results.

  • Through the Sentinel Coaches, ensure all staff within the region receive sufficient and ongoing training on all relevant software and training records are correctly maintained

  • Work various shifts as needed

  • Research and resolve service issues and implement solutions communicating lessons learnt and implemented best practices to the wider business.

  • Escalate all serious issues to Senior Management at the earliest possible opportunity.

  • Deputise Line Manager in their absence, taking forward the responsibilities associated with this role

  • Manage against and contribute to annual operating budgets consistent with business strategy by controlling costs and using resources effectively.

  • Review and control resource requirements and associated cost across remit, identifying peak and low point activity levels through direct reports input and adherence to KPI targets to accurately forecast requirements. Utilising all resources available across varied service lines where possible.

  • Accurately process financial and employee data.

  • Investigate and resolve questionable data/reporting

  • Co-ordinate and complete month end billing processes

  • Manage assigned areas costs on a daily/weekly basis and keep within specified expenditure figure

Valued skills and experience:

  • Sufficient proven experience as a manager, with demonstrated success in running in an operational service delivery role, preferably within the Logistics sector

  • People management skills and experience

  • Service delivery experience

  • Successful execution of regional strategy

  • Ability to build and develop successful long term relationship with customers, direct reports, other teams and departments within Iron Mountain

  • Strong people management skills, with the ability to focus and guide others in accomplishing work objectives, using methods and a flexible interpersonal style, to help build a cohesive team, facilitating the completion of team goals, while valuing each employee as an individual.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

  • Ability to work within a multi-cultural environment and with all levels of the organisation.

  • Project management skills and experience.
