BWXT is currently seeking a Prototyping and Assembly Technical Specialist for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA at the BIC campus!

BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, develops, and tests innovative new nuclear reactors, medical radioisotope production systems, and data science and advanced manufacturing techniques for leading-edge applications.

Our Operations Team works to assemble and support testing of first-of-a-kind reactor plants and prototypes. You’ll be part of the Operations Team responsible for reviewing reactor plant manufacturing drawings, assembling various plant components, and operating equipment to support various testing programs. Job Description / Duties:

  • Working together with BWXT Advanced Technologies Manufacturing Engineers to develop best strategies for assembling Reactor components.

  • Coordinating with stakeholders for various tasks/projects & scopes including respective facility owners, engineering, project controls, environmental health & safety, and management.

  • Support the operations of various test equipment/structures/systems.

  • Support testing and operational verifications of prototype components, systems, and plants, in adherence to formal written instructions and test procedures.

  • Follows schedule and budget during operational activities for all assigned tasks/projects & scope and coordinates with responsible project controls & management.

  • Participates in any applicable problem-solving efforts for any issues regarding schedule, technical, procedural, process and budget instances by leading/coordinating and involving the correct stakeholders and any other personnel (including management) as needed to course-correct any specific scope

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • A minimum of six (6) years of work experience in in Facility and/or Operations execution in a nuclear environment.

  • Must possess a technical background in system testing and/or operations.

  • Ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely written and verbal communication.

  • Requires the ability to work in a team environment, but the ability to work independently will also be required.

  • Neccessary to be strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the operation and testing of fluid systems and instrumentation and control for nuclear applications.

  • Experience with disciplined operations is preferred.

  • Hands on experience with building and operating of test setups and equipment.

  • Active DOD or DOE security clearance.

Pay: $[[custsalaryMin]] - $[[custsalaryMax]]

The base salary range for this position in [[stateProvince]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[custsalaryMin]] and $[[custsalaryMax]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
