WEI is home to the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC), whose mission is to create biofuels and bioproducts that are economically viable and environmentally sustainable. The Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) is looking for a Research Specialist to analyze metabolites produced in the conversion of plant biomass to liquid fuels and commodity chemicals. This person will work as part of a team following established protocols to quantify sugars, fatty acids, alcohols, and other metabolites using high-performance liquid chromatography-refractive index detectors (HPLC-RID) (Agilent) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) (LECO). Additionally, they will be responsible for preforming routine maintenance of the instruments, tracking data using our laboratory information management software (LIMS) system, and assisting in interaction with our clients. Responsibilities: Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision. 50% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results 15% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders 20% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences 5% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials 10% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff...
