Job Title: Mechanical Systems Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • High-Lift Flap Drive and Actuation System:

  • Take ownership of the design and analysis of the high-lift flap drive and actuation system for a large cargo experimental aircraft.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize performance, reliability, and safety.

  • Ensure seamless integration with the overall vehicle architecture.

  • Horizontal Stabilizer Trim Drive and Actuation System:

  • Lead the design and analysis efforts for the horizontal stabilizer trim drive and actuation system.

  • Balance aerodynamic requirements, weight constraints, and operational efficiency.

  • Interface with other engineering disciplines to achieve system-level goals.

  • System Architecture and Layout:

  • Develop innovative architectures for power transmission components, including transmissions, gearboxes, torque tubes, and ballscrew actuators.

  • Create system layouts that maximize efficiency and minimize weight.

  • Consider trade-offs between different design options.

  • Functional and Physical Interfaces:

  • Manage interfaces between the high-lift flap drive and actuation system and the aircraft.

  • Coordinate with vehicle design teams to ensure seamless integration.

  • Communicate design requirements and performance metrics effectively.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum of a B.S. in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or a related STEM discipline).

  • Experience: At least 7 years of relevant experience in designing and analyzing power transmission and actuation systems for large aircraft.

  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with CAD software, preferably CATIA V5.

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading the development of air vehicle systems from conceptual design through production.

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision on these tasks.

  • Experience with the design and analysis of power transmission components such as gearboxes transmissions ballscrews torque tubes gimbals brakes etc.

  • Experience with kinematic analysis.

  • Experience designing and analyzing complex mechanisms.

  • Experience with system engineering processes or project management including but not limited to requirements development system safety analysis and reliability analysis.
