The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Otolaryngology is currently seeking a full time Research Associate 1 to work in Miami, FL. The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.

  • Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.

  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.

  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.

  • Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.

  • Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

Department Specific Functions

  • Assist in Collecting Hearing and Balance Data: Conduct hearing and balance assessments on human subjects, following research protocols in clinical environments and various community settings.

  • Travel to Research Sites: Visit designated research sites across Broward and Palm Beach counties to support data collection efforts and ensure adherence to study timelines.

  • Engage with Study Participants: Communicate effectively with participants, including those who may have hearing impairments or are non-native English speakers to explain study procedures, obtain consent, and conduct assessments while ensuring a supportive and respectful experience.

  • Data Entry and Documentation: Accurately document collected data, maintain records, and ensure data quality for hearing and balance measures, following all confidentiality and compliance guidelines.

  • Set Up and Calibrate Equipment: Prepare and calibrate hearing and balance testing equipment at clinical and community sites, ensuring equipment functionality and consistent data accuracy.

  • Support Participant Recruitment and Retention: Assist in recruiting and retaining study participants by establishing rapport, addressing questions or concerns, and following up on appointments and assessments.

  • Conduct Pre- and Post-Test Procedures: Prepare participants for hearing and balance assessments, provide post-test instructions, and manage follow-up data collection as needed.

  • Coordinate Scheduling and Logistics: Organize participant appointments, travel arrangements to study sites, and necessary materials, ensuring smooth operations and minimal disruption for participants.
