General Ledger Accountant is responsible for accounting activities including maintaining accurate general ledger information and the resultant managerial reports. This position provides information to various internal and external parties to support annual audits, reviews, surveys, and forecasts. The General Ledger Accountant works closely with internal business directors and managers to provide financial information, insights, and problem resolutions. This position prepares reconciliations, corresponding accruals, and correcting journal entries. Also, they develop analysis tools and management reporting to improve efficiency and maintain compliance with policies and regulations. This role provides directions to student employees. Additionally, the General Ledger Accountant will participate in special projects requiring payment, payroll, accounting, and financial information. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Maintain and update fixed asset accounting records, including accurate and timely account analyses and related journal entries. 2. Record month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing entries for various accounts and prepare related account reconciliations. 3. Generate expense variance analysis reports and provide expense forecasts 4. Assemble documents and prepare schedules for various audits and surveys throughout the year. 5. Research and respond to internal inquiries regarding accounting transactions. Respond to employee and supervisor inquiries, and resolve issues related to immediate job responsibilities. Communicate issues to management. 6. Perform all tasks associated with submitting the escheated property to various states. Prepare correspondence, research outstanding checks, transmit data, and remit funds to respective states in accordance with each state\'s rules and deadlines. 7. Serve as the primary point of contact for the 403b retirement plan audit. 8. Calculate and record payroll and interest accruals 9. Responsible for the supervision of student employees including graduate students which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the stude t\'s assignment, etc. 10. Analyze financial systems, functions, and operational procedures and recommend ways to improve efficiency and/or effectiveness.
