The main objective of GMCS is to arrive at a comprehensive understanding of the key interacting and multi-scale processes that are necessary to achieve a successful carbon storage operation. This will require cohorts of engineers and scientists, from across the spectrum of geomechanics, geochemistry, porous media flow, reactive transport, and sensing technologies, to work in concert towards the common mission of fully developing the fundamental science and engineering capability that will lead to realizing the potential for the subsurface sequestration of CO2 via mineralization. The ideal candidate must have strong background in analytical and computation methods applied to reactive transport, damage, and fracture. Also of importance are communication skills and being able to work with the senior investigators, post-doctoral researchers, and graduate students. Prior experience with constitutive modeling of porous media is expected. In addition, the Researcher 5 will be required to: (1) attend and participate in weekly/monthly meetings; (2) supervise graduate students who are also working in the center; (3) generate results in a timely manner for sharing with other members of the center; (4) write quarterly reports and present seminars; and (5) prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed scientific journals. The position is available immediately. The initial appointment will be for one year and is renewable.
