System One Survey Technician Minneapolis, Minnesota

System One is actively seeking a Survey Technician for a long-term contract position located in Minneapolis, MN.

Survey Technician will be responsible for survey crew field activities including plan and profile surveys, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and construction staking. This position is the office to field liaison between Engineering, Design, and Survey. Accountable for the actual field surveying activities. Record all survey data via electronic data collectors in the field, which can be downloaded to computers in the office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field surveys for various projects.

  • Independent work in the field with minimal office time.

  • Drive to multiple job sites and locations, spending a considerable amount of time on the road.

  • Some jobs may require overnight stays in hotels.

  • Work involves using surveying equipment and technology (e.g., Trimble equipment, data collectors, and computers).

  • Flexibility in the type of projects and assignments.

  • Occasional overtime and long workdays.

  • Respond to survey requests from various departments and gather accurate data points on property lines, land contours and existing facilities.

  • Research land records and identify/resolve physical problems in the field expediently.

  • Download survey points from field data collectors to office computers.

  • Analyze data to ensure integrity of feature codes and line strings.

  • Assist office personnel in completing necessary final documents and/or drawings.

  • Communicate with private land survey companies, engineering firms, government agencies, and the general public.

  • Maintain strong understanding of survey procedures along with staying current on new technologies & instrumentation.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: At least 10+ years of surveying experience required. Proficiency in land surveying practices and technology is essential.

  • Education: Background in Survey Technology or Civil Engineering preferred

  • Skills: Must be comfortable with fieldwork, technology, and handling survey equipment. The ability to work independently is critical.

    Ideal Candidate:

  • An experienced land surveyor who enjoys working in the field and is comfortable with travel and long hours.

  • Candidates should be self-motivated, experienced, and proficient with the technology and equipment used in the role.

    Work Schedule:

    Days: Onsite Monday to Friday.

    Overtime: Available, with some long days expected.

    Compensation: Hourly Pay Rate: $45.00 - $47.00hr.

    Location: Flexible, primarily in Minneapolis, Hudson, and Oakland areas. Most work is based in Minnesota.

    Job Type: Full-time, field-based with a significant amount of travel. The role involves a variety of projects, including land survey work for electric, gas, and electric transmission systems, as well as construction surveys.
