Position Summary:

The Central Michigan University College of Education & Human Services is seeking to hire a highly qualified full-time, 9-month, tenure track position in the dual-accredited undergraduate Interior Design program beginning August 19, 2024. This position will require teaching undergraduate courses in interior design with expertise in one or more of the following specialty areas:

• Manual skills and digital technologies applicable to the Interior Design profession, e.g., hand sketching, drafting and rendering, BIM (Revit), PGC (CET), 2D and 3D visual communication (Adobe Creative Cloud, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape), AI tools, and Neuro Design, etc. • Design Processes, involving both application and documentation, encompassing the integration of creativity, functional analysis, and problem-solving within human-centered design studio classes, e.g., hospitality, special user groups, and mixed-use design. • Design Theory, e.g., Environmental Psychology, Universal Design, Sustainability, etc. • Design History, both contemporary and historical.

Please indicate the rank and track for which you wish to be considered: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The successful candidate should have an accomplished track record appropriate to rank of teaching, scholarly and creative activities including publications and grant writing, and service activities. Candidates applying for the Associate or full Professor position should demonstrate a well-established record of scholarship, service, and evidence of excellence in teaching. The expectations will be commensurate with the level being sought (Assistant, Associate, or full Professor).

The successful candidate is expected to consistently uphold research endeavors throughout their career. The candidate will participate in activities such as curriculum development; advising undergraduate students; providing service to the department, college, university and community; as well as maintaining accreditation standards for CIDA and NASAD.

Required Qualifications:

• Doctorate or Master degrees required with at least one degree in interior design or related field; • NCIDQ certification or progress towards completion within one year; • Evidence of college-level teaching effectiveness; • Evidence of successful scholarly and creatively activities; • Experience with and competency in relevant industry-standard software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Cloud, SketchUp, CET); • Evidence of excellent oral and written communication; • Affiliation with professional organizations in the discipline. • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• WELL AP, LEED AP, AAHID, CAPS certification or other professional certifications; • Experience with online teaching; • Previous experience in interior design professional practice; • Demonstrated effective undergraduate advising; • Demonstrated effective recruitment and outreach activities.
