Microsoft Corporation Sovereign Platform Support Engineer in Multiple Locations, Germany

Microsoft has an exciting opportunity for an support engineer to join the international Sovereign Azure Platform team, focused on secure networking and administration capabilities.

In support of Sovereign Microsoft Azure capabilities, our services enable secure data transfer between platforms, supporting security, sovereignty, monitoring and control. Coupled with the challenges of supporting complex environments across disparate security domains, these roles create exciting engineering and service support challenges you can solve with us!

We are looking for a strong Support Engineer to join a fast-paced team and solve complex network focused problems in the domain of mission-critical and highly assured distributed systems – including secure gateways, remote access systems, and highly resilient networks.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to support the operation of a critical set of secure services to be consumed by customers in the networks, systems and software you support will be required to meet the complex security policy and assurance requirements of both public and private sector customers.

Responsibilities

  • As a Sovereign Platform Support Engineer, you’ll be responsible for providing support, troubleshooting, and automation for products, services, and experiences within high-assurance environments. These environments demand robust security and reliability, so your role will involve ensuring smooth operations and rapid resolution of issues.

  • Within the Sovereign environment, you’ll utilise DevOps practices to deploy, operate, and maintain specific services. This includes services related to primarily related to networking, along with servers, and desktops. The goal is to achieve secure administration and efficient operation of sovereign environments.

  • You’ll actively provide 24/7/365 support, which means rotating on-call duties. Your responsiveness and problem-solving skills will be crucial.

  • Collaboration across the global organization is essential. By maximizing process sharing and reuse, you’ll enhance efficiency and consistency. Sharing best practices and lessons learned will contribute to overall success.

  • Working closely with security teams, you’ll ensure adherence to security standards. This involves integrating security practices into all aspects of your work. By maintaining a strong security posture, you’ll protect critical assets.

  • Expect approximately 50-75% onsite travel. This physical presence is vital for effective coordination, monitoring, and collaboration within the center.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and multiple years of hands-on experience in providing operations support to complex IT environments.

  • Excellent knowledge and strong experience of the foundations of IP networking, including across routing/switching, physical/virtual and on-premise/public cloud.

  • Proven knowledge and experience of working with NAT, ACLs, IPSEC VPNs (Client-to-Site & Site-to-Site), Firewalls, and routing protocols (ideally BGP).

  • Extensive experience of service support, with on-call responsibilities.

  • Expertise experience in problem solving and analysing distributed systems and critical production service environments.

  • Firm sense of accountability for end-to-end outcomes, with strong communication skills.

  • Very good German and English skills, with good communication skills in reading/writing of the German language

Preferred:

  • Experience in system and service administration of network platforms.

  • A passion for innovation in complex and constrained environments, to deliver advanced and progressive customer experiences.

  • Understanding of the challenges of system and service management in high security domains.

  • Systems shell scripting experience (Bash, PowerShell, Python) and Dev Ops suites such as Ansible or equivalent.

  • DevOps experience, including continuous configuration automation.

  • Azure deployment knowledge including Bicep and Arm templates.

  • Capable working in broad domains including, systems, security, software, and service design.

  • Azure Cloud certification or any other Cloud Certification 

  • CCNA certification  

Cloud Background check:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
