Job Title Student Assistant (Equipment Assistant)

General Description

This is a student position responsible for assisting in the general maintenance of equipment and/or vehicles assigned to the College of Forestry and Agriculture. Performs repetitive manual work for various physically demanding tasks.

Job Duties

  • Checks out and checks in equipment for scheduled labs.

  • Cares for and maintains equipment as instructed.

  • Performs light maintenance and repair on vehicles and/or equipment.

  • Assists in maintaining vehicle and/or equipment records.

  • Details and fuels vehicles.

  • May assist with equipment inventory.

  • Assists with special projects and support as assigned.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of equipment used by department for outdoor forestry labs.

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.

  • Ability to drive a university vehicle.

  • Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.

    Required Qualifications

The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.

Must be enrolled as a student in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture.

Valid Texas driver’s license and a university driving permit is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Demands

May require occasional heavy lifting; ability to lift heavy objects.

May perform work in varying environmental conditions including summer heat, winter cold, wind, rain, and/or humidity.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
