Position Description
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women Infants and Children (WIC) of Davidson County offers a broad range of innovative nutrition services to improve the health of vulnerable families. Nashville WIC participants receive vital child health and nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and healthy foods from a compassionate and culturally competent staff. Davidson County WIC is seeking a qualified Nutrition Educator to join the team in dynamic “Music City,” Tennessee. This passionate professional should be competent in diet assessment, nutrition counseling and evaluation.
Typical Duties
Provides diet assessment and nutrition counseling; works with clients to promote lactation/breastfeeding.
Interprets patient’s immunization status and collects participant measures.
Refers special nutrition problems to a supervisor for follow-up.
Conducts outreach activities
Organizes and participates in health fairs and other events.
Develops and displays educational and resource material.
Teaches basic principles of nutrition and food management.
Performs recipe testing and prepares food demonstrations.
Maintains inventory of nutrition equipment and supplies.
Assists in planning and participates in various training programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of nutrition related experience.
Unless a Registered Dietitian in the state of Tennessee, all applicants must provide a transcript that indicates courses taken meet or exceed the following federal requirements: nine (9) quarter hours or six (6) semester hours in human nutrition, four (4) quarter hours or three (3) semester hours in human anatomy or physiology, and four (4) quarter hours or three (3) semester hours in education, psychology, or counseling.
